I have a prt with a PC 7518 router. My zero plate grounds out on everything I touch except the router bit. I have tried several so it is not the bit. It has something to where the collet screws on I believe. If i do the router bit in the collect it grounds out. I have cleaned inside the collect where the threads are and the router inside and the threads on that assembly. Any other ideas?
Thanks

Bob,
Try clipping your ground directly to your bit.

Bob,
On the collar that you slip your router in there is a plastic sleeve that has a slit in it that seperates it from the collar. On the collar is a screw that tightens the router into the collar and grounds the router to the frame.
If your frame is grounded then that tells me the issue is somewhere at the connection of the router to the frame namely that collar. Check to make sure that screw is tight. Also maybe untighten it and clean the screw and body of the router, maybe some kind of oxidation is interfering with your contact point.

Thank all of you for the responses. But alas, it isn't anything from above. I've checked the rubber holder on the router, the clip is fine since it will ground out on just about everything else except the router bit and collar when installed. I never thought of hooking directly to the router bit :o I will keep on searching since it was working good for up until now.

Bob,
My first thought would have been what Jack suggested based on what you said.
My next would be to look for a problem I had. The wire was broken inside the plastic coating of the coiled lead to the ZZero plate. When I stretched it down to the table the wire separated sometimes causing the problem you are experiencing but when it was stretched less the two ends made contact inside the coating again - all unseen of course.
I not mention of course that the break occurred because some unknown person with a name just like mine ran a V-groove wheel over the coiled wire. :o

I try to take logical steps to try to figure out what my problem is so let me ask..
The bits you are installing and trying are they coated with anything that might stop the circuit from being completed?
Can you take a 1/2" steel bar and chuck it up in the router and clip to it to see if that completes the circuit. If it does you know its the bits. If it doesn't then there is a issue with the coating.
Another thing to try is take the router out of it's sleeve and clip the clip and ground the router against the frame somewhere. If it's ok then you know it is a connection between the sleeve and the Z axis.

I clamp it on the frame and it grounds out wherever I touch the plate including the router. It is just when the bit is in the router I can't get it to ground out by touching the bit. I just discovered that the limit switches wire was apparently run over by some idiot and cut completely off:eek: I connected it back together and it started to work correctly (in reference to grounding out on the bit) I don't now if that is pure coincidence or solved the problem. I shall find out I guess.
Thanks

I can't imagine who in the world that would have been....can you?:D
I hope that solves your problem:)
