Just bought a slightly used Shopbot. Woooohoooo! Want to order a Milwaukee router. I Checked some of the past threads and seems the way to go for noise. Will be doing mostly relief carving. Can I get the right size bits and collets needed for the Milwaukee? If so, any suggestions where to order them from. Also any help on what sizes and kinds to start with would be VERY much appreciated. Will be working mostly with alder, cedar, and some pine.

This router has 1/4" and 1/2" collet. You may find 3/8" I think...

As for 3D ball end bits, you'll probably be looking for 1/16", 1/8" and 1/4" CED maybe 1/2" or more for roughting. 1/8" shouldn't be so hard to find with a 1/4" collet but 1/16" or smaller are not so common with the 1/4" collet.

I would look at Onsrud first. Download and order their catalogs so you can browse all of what they have available...

If you need/want to use 1/8" shank bit with this router, you'll need a sleeve.

Unfortunatly 1/4" shank are more expensive than 1/8" on small CED (more carbide "wasted") but it's safer to use than sleeve if you ask me...

Shari,
When purchasing your milwaukee router, make sure you order a 1/4" collet. Mine (base package) did not come with one and it took a couple weeks to find one here in Phoenix.

Check out Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00007FPJK/qid=1151294016/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3646587-7862545?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=228013
The Milwaukee router is $279.00 with a free milwaukee sander and 10% off plus free shipping. It does not come with a 1/4" collet but is a great price and a great router.

this was copied from one of my orders to show the part numbers and prices from ENCO.

I found out about this jewel from Brady on the Shopbot website. He talks about this in one of his tips.

the above list stubby chuck fits right in the existing 1/2" collet that comes with your Router.

Thanks guys. You're great. I'm off to order the goodies. If you can think of anything extra I need, please just point me in the right direction. I can't wait to carve my first piece. Foam was recommended for the first couple of test projects so I don't crash the machine. ;) I'm sure I'll be searching and getting a lot of info from the older posts.
Thanks again,
Shari
