Why does shopbot use 3.5 inch hose on the dust shoe? Can it be found to purchase somewhere? I have 4 inch hose and I am loosing a lot of suction at the connection, and of course my 4 inch hoses are just 8 feet long so I have 3 joints. I either need to find a place to buy 20 feet of 4 inch or 20 feet of 3.5 inch hose.

Any suggestions?

I used a shrink to fit hose cuff that did the job. I've since upgraded to a Kent dust shoe that has a proper 4" fitting.

You should be able to get 4" hose just about any woodworking store. They also sell adapters that you cut off at the size you are looking for.

Hey David. Heres a couple of Harbor Freight gems that are working good for me. I have it plumbed outside to one of those heavy duty trash cans you can get from Lowe's using 4" PVC pipe. I cut a hole in the attached lid and added a PVC fitting to the lid so it would let me put the bag that came with the dust collector to it. It works like a charm. I also have the Kent and it keeps the shop nice and clean. The bag isn't on there in the picture but you get the idea. Just a suggestion and a fairly inexpensive setup. The flex hose is really heavy duty too. Keep in mind that you can always find a 20% off coupon online with a fast gogle search.

If you put a separator before the fan it really helps with the big stuff hitting the fan or the gigger chips plugging the inlet

The 3.5" hose on the foot will fit inside a 4" hose. A 4" hose clamp will lock them together. No fitting necessary.

You will not regret the decision to buy the Kent shoe. After fighting with the stock one for the first month (and trying a few mods, etc) I got the Kent and it has been awesome. I did buy bith heights of skirt though, and two 1/2" spacers. If you use a lot of different bits (I do, from short 1/4" ones to extended length 5/8" ones) it is nice to quickly adjust the height of the dust skirt to get optimal dust and chip collection.

Ah yes, good ole duct tape. the problem I ma running into is that the hose is 4 OD and the PVC pipes ar 4 ID, they wont freaking fit! I have had the 1.5 harbor freight dust collector roll around model for about 2 years, and it has given up the ghost so to speak. I just bought the big 2 hp one today. I run a Cyclone Seperator between the vac and the shoe.

David,
Have you tried twisting the 3.5 into the 4" ? Honestly, they are snug enough that they fit as though they were made to thread together. Before I got the Kent shoe, I was able to do this without any duct tape and had a good seal.

I went to Lowes and bought a stove pipe reducer, it is galvanized, 3.5 to 4.0. But that is not where I am loosing my suction I don't think. I think my old dust collector motor just does not have enough uumph to draw the dust up to the top of the shed then across to the cyclone. I think the new motor I got today, 2 HP, and with the Kent Dust Shoe, I should be good. I also got me a roll of welding wire to run thru the hose to the cyclone which is grounded to earth.

But I have a roll of Monster Duct Tape just in Case

Could you use tin snips to cut a slit up the 4" hose, then overlap the slit to make it a smaller diameter?

Again...the 3.5" hose from the foot fits INSIDE a 4" dust hose. Pop a clamp on there & yer done. It really works...
