I thought it was funny that I got so excited when I pulled this vise out of the box. It's a Jorgensen 13" opening quick-release front vise (http://www.amazon.com/Jorgensen-41012-Woodworkers-Vise/dp/B0000223R2/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2VAG9TOCKRLDI&coliid=I3CJX309NUJGGG) for my nesting workbench (it has wheels and hides under my desk/workbench). I'll have two of them on there, this is the first one. Amazon didn't send the other, I have no idea why.
It is a gorgeous piece of metal, and although I already smashed my fingers with it, I still love it. I can't wait to get it mounted, but I don't have time right now. Soon though.

I've never owned a front vise. Or an end vise. Or a bench vise. I always got away without one by using clamps. I think that's why I'm so excited, and because this thing is far better made than I had ever imagined.
I'm just plain thrilled. As you may be able to tell by me wasting your time with this post. :)

If you put a short stick in the "hole thing" on the front, you will enjoy your vice even more.

I don't suppose instructions were included.

Nothing like good old fashioned hand tools.

I put a stepper motor on mine. I can run it remotely with my new Blackberry.

You could have made one on the bot.

Actually on another bench I have one like that, comes in handy. Its a real timesaver to work on a piece properly secured.

After smashing my fingers with this evil pig, I cut myself 4 different times yesterday. Just little nicks, no bandaids necessary, they plugged up fine with grease and grub and sawdust.
I'm going to hang this one today and hope the other one shows up so I can start hurting myself all over again.
I did manage to get started on it last night before I got dragged outta here.

Did you drop it on your foot yet? The day is still young...:D

The other one just showed up, Brady. I'm hoping I can drop that one on my foot.
I did smarten up a bit and took the vise apart. I haven't hurt myself on anything yet, but the day is young!!!

Edit:
Welp, I didn't get to hurt myself with the second vise. It was broke. A mounting tab on the body casting. I packed her up and it'll be a week or better until the other one gets here. They said they'd ship on the 14th, I don't know why it'll be so long.
I had read in the reviews at Amazon about how many of these vises arrive broken, and it was pretty alarming. Amazon pays the shipping to send it, return it, and send a new one, $38.95 a throw. So at this point, they have $120 shipping wrapped up in a $150 vise. If the next one arrives broken, they'll have $240 wrapped up in a $150 vise.
The big, heavy sumbitch is just thrown in a cardboard box. No foam, no nothing. You'd think they'd use those plastic bags and squirt foam, then maybe Jorgensen could make some money. It's no skin off my ass, but it's a really, really nice vise. They'll quit making them if they're not making any coin, and that'd suck.

The Amazon rules to a vendor go something like this, OK we'll sell your stuff, BUT you EAT all comebacks. It's the vendor that's eating those charges, and if they don't Amazon will drop them. Most BIG distributors work that way. So that vendor had better upgrade their packaging or give more margin dollars to Amazon to repack (which they won't do). In a past life I had some products sold by Radio Shack and WE ate all returns and associated costs. Russ
