I'm teaching guitar building at a high school on Cape Cod. I've been teaching this course for 13 years the old fashioned way with router templates, routers and bandsaws. we just got a desktop machine so next year we hope to be moving into this century:-)


can you tell me where you got that rollup, ballpark cost? We're initially looking at making our drawings with paper and sharpie, shooting a JPG, then tracing it in partworks.

This rollup might save a step and help us to avoid a lot of scaling and rotating to do the same thing.

I was a fraid of that: took me 3 years of bugging the principal to finally get the Desktop machine..... so if I have to ask the price it sounds like I shouldn't waste my time asking the principal:rolleyes:

the 3d probe will do the same thing for much less. but a picture will do it too and save money.

That brings up a thing with me , i would like to be able to use the machine to trace out my work ,i do now but it destroys the sharpie.
Has anyone made a pen holder that is spring loaded so when the machine drops down to do the trace there is some play there .
Sharoie's are good because they are 1/2 dia like a 1/2 shank on a bit but can destroy the end
Any design's out there ?

I have done this for graphics

If its just a profile & not 3D
you can take a picture of the item. (make sure your square)
Then, in GIMP software use "threshold" to get the profile.

Then use INKSCAPE to convert to vector
