I've loaded the driver CD for the USB-serial connection and had access to the controller in the past, but now I'm getting this message:

"Error opening comm port: The comm port identifier is bad"

I've reloaded the driver information and still can't connect to the USB port. I'm using Comm Port 3 and have had access in the past, but now nothing.

Any suggestions?

I would start by checking two items. Go to your device manager via the control panel and check to see which comm port is assigned to the serial/USB adapter. Then, in the SB software go to Value Inputs and be sure the same comm port is listed there.

If that doesn't work, make sure you didn't change which USB port your plugged into. You can also try opening the device in device manager and updating the driver then pointing it to the CD for the new drivers. If it says this version is already installed, replace it anyway. Doing so will make sure any corrupted files or entries get fixed.

I had the same problem. I solved the problem by switching to dynex brand usb adapter.
