I have some old 3/4" industrial video tapes shoeing how we created 3D objects that i want to import into my PC. I have my videotape player set up with a "Dazzle" to take the audio/video outputs and convert it to a USB input on my pc and i want to use a free utility to import the video and capture it to a windows media file that i can then import to a video editing program.

The problem that i am having is that the editing programs i've looked at like Camtasia and a few others only import already captured video files and don't have it's own capture utility.
So if you know of a free simple utility (or a suggestion of something that does do what i want) that i can at least read about to see if it will do what i want, i'd appreciate it....

Try the Corel products. I needed to do some of this a few years ago and was able to get a good program from them for about $35 because they will give you enormous discounts for competitive products even if they are ancient

I have bought a couple of video capture devices in the past and all of them have come with video capture software for your computer. Check the disk that came with the Dazzle or check their web site for it. Once you have it on the computer you should be able to open it in most editing programs. The devices I bought also had a basic video editing software with it.

The Camtasia addon (jing) looks like it only has video capture from a webcam or video camera i'll research it a bit more. Possibly i can fool it into thinking its a webcam with a usb input, it may work ok...

If all fails, you may want to take your video files to Costco and have them converted. Not too dear and usually a fairly quick turnaround..

Just a thought
