I'm trying to machine only the 3D geometry of my model and not the blank space in between with Aspire. The model is created in Rhino and exported out as a .stl. Every time I try to calculate a 3D toolpath on this file, it machines the "blank" area in the middle. How do I eliminate this?
Also, here is the .stl file: 17594
17595
Thanks,
Paul

Draw a vector around the shape and when you calculate the toolpaths highlight the vectors. It will only machine between the vectors
Jd
Vectors on the outside and inside with enough allowance for the size bit you are using. Easily done with the offset tool

Use the "Create vector boundary from selected components" tool on the modelling tab and it will create the correct inside and outside vectors.
Select those and then create the roughing and finishing toolpaths.

Thanks guys for the help; those options worked! I originally tried the "Create vector boundary from selected components" and couldn't get it to work, but I just realized the problem was that after I clicked that option. I made my selection in the 3D view which apparently doesn't automatically select those vectors. Once I made my selection from the 2D view, everything worked perfect:D
Thanks again, I should have asked first because I wasted 3 hours last night searching the forums trying to find an answer.
