My cable support recently broke at the first hole above the mounting brackets. First the far side, the the Z-axis end.
My solution to the problem (NO DOWN TIME IS ACCEPABLE!) was to cut two pieces of fairly hard 1/2" rubber, 6" x 2" and bolt them to the inboard side of the cable support, centering them over the break. I put four 10-32 machine screws with fender washers on the rubber above and below the break.
Now the rubber acts as a hinge, but keeps everything tight and tidy.
