Just setting up a new to me 2004 PRT standard with the Coloumbo 3hp spindle. Does anyone know the correct collet size for this spindle? Thanks, Marc

That would be an ER-25.

Get your collets from SB, Techniks or PDS Colombo. If you try to save $3 on the cheap ones, sad days are ahead...

You can get a Teckniks ER-25, Precision Grade with a TIR of about .0002". They are pretty inexpensive. Depending on what size bits you will use, I'd recommend TWO of each size, as a minimum. Three may be a luxury, but it may be a wise investment. Then, when you have a problem, you can swap out without being down on production or having to pay for expedited shipping. Order the replacement as soon as you start using the last one.

Also, if you are setting up to do this for the first time, and depending on what you got with the purchase, you may want several collet nuts, as well. I keep one per collet, so I am not changing them out all the time. And I also order up new ones when I order new collets. They are CHEAP. Break ONE BIT and you will have paid for them...

Lastly, if you don't have a collet wrench, and you are starting into this for the first time, you need to know they do not use a standard wrench. It is a funky looking wrench. Google it if you don't have one. And order one with your other components. The wrench that secures the shaft is a standard open end wrench. I forget the size, but you can probably grab one from your tool box, get one at a car parts or hardware store or order a purposed unit. You should be able to look up the size on line or caliper the flats on the spindle shaft.

Good luck! Happy Cutting!

Ok great,

Wasn't aware they might fail so easily. May have to pick up some extras. Already have the wrenches, so should be good to go. Thanks,Marc

They don't really fail easily, but, like a lot of other PM they get looked at too infrequently. Common sense should rule the day, but there is nothing so uncommon as common sense....
