I just got my PRS Alpha 48 x 96 set up. The YZ carriage came off the track. I managed to get it on the track and it slides smoothly--no apparent damage. But input light #4 is on and I get messages. The x axis does not move. The motors and gears spin but the carriage does not move. Any suggestions?

First, close SB3 and turn off the control box. Then, adjust the 2 lower v-roller bearings on the YZ car that engage the lower rails on the beam. Lightly snug is good...do not overtighten. Then, loosen the bolts on the motor plates and let them drop down. Then raise them all the way up, wiggling a little bit to make sure that each pinion is completely engaged into the rack. Do this on both X motors and the Y.

Then, turn on the control box, press the blue reset button on the pendant. Open SB3 and see how things are. Adjust as necessary.

Brady:

Your advice worked perfectly!!! All three axes work fine now. Input #4 is now green in the center, with a red donut (annulus) around the center. Is that Ok or does it need resetting?

That's it. Press the blue reset button every time you turn the control box on.

another less s.erious problem--I want to set 0,0,0 at a certain location and height. But I want the position to survive repeated power on and off actions. I have not been able to do this

Karl,
I know some use recorded offsets. I don't because you never know when something might sneak in and throw it off.

Here is what i do....
If i want to set my X,Y Zero somewhere on my table lets say it would be the center of my material located down a bit from the corner then i would

do a C3 my X, and Y would be at 0,0
then manually move my bit to the center of my material (or lower left of material)
Then write down those coordinates (for example X24.450 Y 18.323)
Then Zero X and Y

Now if you want to find that same spot all you have to do is
C3 then MX24.450 MY18.323
thats basically 2 commands

In your SB3 setup you can input the amount of offset you want when you run the C3 command. Set it to the spot plus the distance from the limit switches to the edge of your table.

In SB3, type in the TS command (ShopBot setup) and select 'I have a Zzero plate & I have proximity switches', proceed through & select 'make it easy on me' and the routine will guide you through setting up your tool in a straightforward and simple way.
