Well, I plan to uninstall Sb3 3.8.4 this evening and go back to 3.6.44. I've had several problems with 3.8.4 the last few days and need to get some work done.

I've already contacted Frank at Shopbot and he provided a workaround for one problem and offered to look at my shopbot.ini for any clues to my issues but I'm not too optimistic.

Problems:
-------------
1.) Using the remote stop switch causes Sb3 to exit immediately instead of presenting the usual Quit/Resume dialog. Position is retained so I can restart the job without too much trouble. Frank suggested using the space bar or S on the keyboard which works as the remote stop switch used to with the previous release. Until today...

2.) I was cutting another part, stepped out of the shop for 5 minutes, and when I returned I saw that the router had stopped, was still in the material (hadn't retracted) and the SB display (red panel) showed that it was still cutting. It's like Sb3 completely lost communication with the control box. Anyway, I hit the spacebar on the keyboard and Sb3 exited immediately (like had happened before when using the remote stop switch).

At this point, I just need to get some work done and will upgrade again to 3.8.x when it is more stable. I've never had a problem like this before in the 3 years I've had the Shopbot.

Bill mine did the same thing on part 43 - only worked for 5 hours today. Never broken a cutter until I started on 3.8 all because the panic stop doesnt retract. Cant follow their thinking on that one???????

I guess I am a chicken. I wait for you guys to find all the issues and download the upgrade a year later.

Software is a tough business. There are enough variables when just talking about a person interacting with a computer. Add an external piece of hardware like a ShopBot and the factors increase considerably.

Having said that, I've been using 3.8.4 on the Desktop for some time now without problem. It has correctly retracted when I've hit stop. But that's just me and my machine. Experiences vary - it can be hard to track down issues that are machine and situation dependent.

I have found that 3.8 tends to lockup if I hit the direction keys too fast changing direction before the current move has completed. Other wise it seems ok.
