Just got some new boots in Australia that are anti static. Will see if t. Hs fixes my comms problems! Do you have these in the States?

One if the companies I used to work for, Advanced Fibre Communications, actually bought me a really nice pair of ESD safe boots, so I didn't have to wear an anti-static bracket when working on the PCB's. Lined with what looked to be a graphite impregnated material. They worked very well!

Ron I should practice what I preach - 2 comms failures in two and a half hours and which silly person didnt wear his new boots because he was tooooooo lazy to fx up the laces! There is an Austalian Standard now for anti static boots. Might try putting them undr the Bot!

Bob - Ive gone thru 2 sets of Timberland composite toe - ESD shoes and typically only wear them - when Im working on the machine. Not sure if they help - but thought it worth the investment.

are things different in Australia , as far as static? I dont understand the need for all this type antistatic stuff:confused:

Yea, the physics are slightly different down there. That's what makes them talk funny.

Wearing anything with acrylic in it is very live around the Bot. I have seen the spark zap across several times in low humidity conditions. Anyway I reckon its worth a bash wearing the boots as they are still steel caps and just slightly heavier than normal and of course they have the lightning flash!

Bob, you still using 3.8.x or have you gone back to 3.6.44?

Mike - am persevering and putting 3.8.6 on tonight. Couldnt do this before as had a long run job with strict deadline. Only problem I'm having is unexpected stopping in daft places. Not ruining work but a pain in the behind! My reason for staying is it will be the norm soon as Shopbot are shipping 3.8.4 with Partworks now and I had hoped the "more robust comms" could help. My comms problem seems to have something to do with dust build up on the nose of the spindle where it pokes out under the Kent. I dont want to foil line it as I like to see whats happening at the start of a new cut. There might be something I can coat the nose with that dust wont cling too??? Also going to mess with a compressed air cleaner inside the Kent at each new part. There is a guy near you that will make Kent brushes with brass strands mixed in there. I only seem to have this problem on MDF (medical grade whatever that is!!!) on the table front though I have done an upmarket version of Andrews excellent idea and it seems to be working perfectly. Russel helped with this and is also going to do the same. Come up and have a peek!
