It's only for small items though. No way to squeeze a larger object on the platform. I have a NextEngine scanner that works along the same lines. It's about 8 times more expensive. It would be worth the $500 investment to see though. If it's half as good as the NextEngine, it would be a good deal.

If you already have an XBox with the Kinect, you could already be scanning!

Jack, did they finally come out with the software for the Kinect. I also have a Nextengine but I like the idea of structional scanning.

Did Vectric ever come out with the wizard they were talking about below?

We're going to show the "Kinect yourself to your CNC" process at the San Francisco Maker Faire next week (May 22-23, 2011)

Darn! I'm here in California for another thing, Google IO. It ends on the 19th. It would have been great to see that.

As far as I know they shelved it because people would be disappointed with the results as the Kinetic is a pretty poor scanner for the sort of things people would want to CNC.

Might have changed with the new SDK's though as I'm not sure if it was a hardware or software limitation.

John... (gently) I think you would have to time travel to do that?

But you COULD attend THIS year's Maker Faire, In San Mateo which also ends on the 19th ....That would let you get a look at the new Handibot

My flight leaves in the morning of the 19th. Bad planning on my part.
