Hey any of you guys have a suggestion as to the best adhesive to laminate two pieces of 2" sign foam with that will machine well when 3D surfaced across the lamination?

thanks in advance

Gorilla glue… you’ll need a good clamp/hold down method because it foams and tries to move. I’ve never tried full sheets… that would be a challenge!

coastal enterprises sells a one part poly glue I like.
pb bond240. http://precisionboard.com/products/adhesives/
and they have one that sets super fast as well.
they also have some videos on the website that are good.

Epoxy. put it down with a short nap roller for a nice even coat, don't forget to wash & dry your sheets prior to.
Although gorilla glue has its uses it is not good glue for hdu, as Steve noted it will foam and expand leaving voids at the glue line

Thanks guys

I am a bit torn. At first I did not like the idea of gorilla glue because of the expansion, and I was thinking there had to be a product specifically for this, and then Robert suggested the coastal product that seemed perfect but it looks EXACTLY like gorilla glue to me, especially with the water needed for catalyzation.

I was also thinking epoxy, but I am wickedly allergic to it and avoid it whenever I can.

Could the expansion be a good thing to make a better bond into the cells of the foam? just make sure I have it clamped well (I was thinking about even vacuum bagging it).

I may just have to do some samples, and see what I think. I have a customer in a hurry, but I want to make sure it comes out right.

thanks for the help

How many times has this question been asked and answered?

Gorila G & the Precision Board glue are the same. Not good for sheet glue-ups.

If you're allergic to standard epoxy try using Mas Epoxy. It's much nicer to work with and cleans up with water.

Ask Bill P. or do a search on the product.

Well vinegar/denatured alcohol will clean your tools not water, but MAS epoxies claim to have 95% less VOC's than any of the other leading brands...I still haven't heard of anyone becoming 'sensitized' to MAS products. They also have a complete line of fillers ( I like their new "Cell-O-Fill" product that will allow you to mix up a batch of epoxy to just about ANY consistency you need...) It's also not as likely to be inhaled as Cabosil or most of the other "talc" like fillers in the trade.
One Shopbotter around here used to spray a diluted batch (denatured alcohol works for this application....) of it through HVLP guns to coat full sheets of HDU too.

“it will foam and expand leaving voids at the glue line”

Thanks Gary that’s good to know… I’ve only used it for small areas and was able control expansion with weights and clamps. I wonder if the vacuum bag would work? Mike… if you try the vacuum bag please report back!
