I sent my cousin in Orlando two antique chairs. Unfortunately they were both damaged in shipping. :(

Are any of you Great furniture repair persons or do you know a shop in the Orlando area that I could send her to.
I haven’t seen pictures of the damage yet, but it sounds like the backs of both chairs were broken and the arm of one was broken.
My cousin is by no means qualified to make an expert judgment but she thinks they are repairable.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. :D

Have you filed a claim for the damage

Have you filed a claim for the damage

My cousin will do that today on her end.
I'm working with the people that packed and shipped on this end.
I had insurance on the chairs to cover cost, but they have a great deal of sentimental value. Hoping for a good repair shop.

At least they should pay for the repairs so I would have them done right

This reminds me of that Samsonite luggage commercial where they have put some luggage in a cage with a bunch of gorillas and they throw it around and stomp on it...are you sure those same gorillas weren't in charge of shipping your chairs?

It looks repairable but you will probably see the repairs...:(

i agree with jack, no care was taken in the handling of those chairs. wood can be glued and the seam could be made nearly un noticable but those chairs will never be the same.

Jack - Gorillas is not what I'd call them. I was sick when I saw the pictures.
I realize they will never be fixed without seeing the repairs now.
If it weren't for the sentimental value I'd let some dumbXXX gorilla eat them.
It looks like I need the best furniture repair person Florida has.
Anyone know who that is???

I have done a lot of repairs (mostly to chairs by the way) and some, so rough you would swear they werent fixable.

A really experienced person can certainly repair them, and doctor the finish as to make them look like the repairs were never done - seriously. But it takes know how and the want and care to do the job correctly (and that costs $$).

Dont say they wont be the same. Think positive - and find the right shop to do the work.

Good luck!

AJC

Special thanks to James Mcgrew Your people in SC lead me to two top shops in the Orlando area. I'm now working with the shipping company on the clam.

that will have to be done with lots of care... they will be weak even with the best repair. one thing you will face on damage claims is how well you packed them... i had ups deny a claim. i took them to court and won... they ended up paying more for their lawyer than the item
