Hi Guys
Been a while.I just wanted to make you all aware (especially here in the north east)of that tiny pest-the Deer tick.
I may have been bitten a few years ago and not aware of it.
I have been feeling very stiff in my joints for a while -I just thought I was finally getting old-Then my knees flared up and was nearly crippled.I'm now on a IV for high dose penicillin -One month to a year! Hope only one month.I have PiCC line in my left arm-which means I can't lift more then 10lbs! Hard to lift a sheet of plywood with one hand!
I'm telling you all this to just be Aware of what Lyme disease can do.If you get bit -Get it checked out! The earlier the better.

Wow, too bad about the lyme. Some of my friends have had a tough time with that disease. I hope you beat it quickly.

Heard of cases in AUS but the medical fraternity is in denial about its existence here.....go figure. Good luck with treatment......
Cheers

The undercurrent info is that the medical fraternities are not so much in denial as under extreme pressure from above from their various associations, insurance companies and governments (of all stripes) to cover up what is potentially the biggest financial threat to all of these corporate and political entities ever calculated with no "cure" or cooperative strategy yet even on the horizon. Blaming this on left, right or, for that matter, centrist governments is simply distracting, counter-productive and naive as they've all been aware of this hidden crisis. Sorry Erminio, you should not have to be dealing with this and I hope for the absolute best outcome for you. I'm sure you likely have already but Google the terms Plum Island and lyme disease.

For those in tick concentrated areas, get yourself a can of spray that contains 'Permanone' (per-man-own) - which you can find at big box sporting good stores etc. You spray it on your clothes and shoes - lasts like 5-10 washings. Kills on contact. We get chiggers here pretty bad in the Summer time in or near the woods. If you thought mosquitoes were the worst of the bunch, they are nothing compared to chiggers. They'll make you itch until you bleed...
I was brush hogging the cart paths in the back fields today and found one large and 2 mini ticks on me when I came in. Those little ones are not much larger than a ---> . <----- and they are hard to shake off.

Erminio,
So was it a few days or weeks before you figured out what the problem was ???
If you started treatments sooner you would have been far better ?

Hi Guys
Thanks for your thoughts
I believe it's been a few years I've had this thing.
Never saw a tick or any reaction( bull's eye rash)
If I caught it in a few days or weeks-it would have been a whole different story!
I just posted this not for sympathy( though I'll take what I can :) )-
But as a warning ! This is not a joke-It could lead to paralysis and other serious problems.
Right now I finally have a decent amount of work in and can't get it done.
BTW Ernie-I still have the sign you made for our 1st camp here.
Hope to have another after all this clears up!It been a few years.

Dude! I am so on this. Normally I spray my cloths with the deep woods off. I spray my shoes and my socks, fold the socks down and spray, spray my calves and shins - put pants back on... If this stuff works I will be in debt to you.

Erminio, I am sorry for your problems, and hope your recovery is complete. You made me think of my then 7 or 8 year old niece who while living in New Jersey got Lymes Disease. But in her case, she right away got the big bull's eye rash. The doctor's told my sister and her husband to be very thankful their daughter had the strong visual reaction to the tick bite. Now I more fully appreciate why. Best wishes, Chuck

My father, who lives in the Northeast, nearly died from a Lyme infection. He got it from mowing the lawn. It took about six months before he was correctly diagnosed and by that time had lost 50 lbs. After six months of constant antibiotics, he finally was cured. Got to watch for those little buggers!

Yep. No joke. It hits both man & his best friend. My dog caught a form of meningitis from a tick. He was in such pain and couldn't walk. It was a real shame. Luckily he has fully recovered after 6 months of meds and a number of laser treatments for pain. I thought his time was up. Thankfully he is still around and doing just fine.
BTW, he helped me write the VR article (http://www.shopbotblog.com/index.php/2008/03/a-ramping-the-vr-command-and-how-to-tune-your-tool-for-maximum-performance/) :D
