Interestingly, I've been loving the new version, until I did some simple lap joints...

I measured the material thickness with calipers, z-zeroed to the bed and set my tool path to half the thickness. The pocket cut was almost 1/16" too deep!!!

I guess I'll go through all the stuff to see what's off - I just wondered if anyone else has seen this behavior?

In the past, doing cabinet doors, it was always perfect...

Weird timing Ron,

I was about to post a question about reinstalling 3.6 as 3.8 has been a solid turkey for me today. Every tool change operation with a call up for C2 off table zeroing has resulted in a failed second drop. When the bit contacts on the second slow drop it kicks up a 'Failed to make contact' message.
Doing a C2 by manually typing the command will be successful every time. C2 call up in a PW file will be a 'fail to make contact.

This used to happen in 3.6 with an Ecab link file at the very begenning of the file run. Doing a manual C2 would usually correct the issue and I could go ahead and run the Link file, with dozens of tool changes, without any further issue. 3.8 doesn't even get beyond the first tool change call up. Must be my power companies electrons again?

I did some pockets today with the new setup... .155" - I was making some new plywood bearing shields for my big copy lathe follower, and it was bang on.

Also some 1/4" deep pockets in some furniture stuff and it was also good.

So far the only "issue" I have had is that if I run into the X axis stops with the table on my Buddy, instead of getting a "stop hit" error, it just bounces off repeatedly and tries to keep going. Doesnt seem to do it on the Y or Z, just the X.

But cutting has been fine. SO far!

Hey Andrew. Not to high jack the thread but could you tell me more about your copy lathe. I really need to add one to my shop. I've been turning spindle work away on a regular basis. Just looking for an affordable solution.

Cutting 8 hours daily only 3D, part size 7” wide, 40” length 4” high, software 3.8.6 PRT 4G. At the end of the cut my zero would change to a value +Y and +X.
Move speed 2.2,2.2. There are no commands that would re-zero. Program was air cut to be sure steps were not lost due to loading, move speed changed to 1.5,1.5..no difference. Returned to .44 software all is running as usual. Filed a report with Frank at SB, have not received a report.

Tried re-installing 3.8.6 today and everything was good for the first 3-4 hours. Then it hit the wall with the Z-zero command within a link file. Kept initiating 'failed to make contact' on the second Z-zero drop when input 1 was tripped on second contact. The failure frequency increased quickly after the first one appeared and finally became unusable. I was hoping there was something flawed about my first install attempt of 3.8.6 but it looks like it doesn't play well with my machine, pewter and electrons I'm buying from the power company. Hopefully the next update will be smoother sailing.
Reinstalled 3.6.44 and didn't have another problem the rest of the day. Got out 8 more sheets with multiple tool changes (manual...sigh) without a problem.

does anyone know if there is a way to get 3.8.6 to open V-CARVE Pro instead of PARTWORKS? I use V-Carve Pro and most recently ASPIRE 4.0 since I have multiple CNC tools not just a SHOPBOT. I am still playing with 3.8.6 in a test/preview environment only. Would be nice if the filepath could be changed to make it run whichever design package in use in the shop.

If you add or change a line to this in the Program Files\ShopBot\Virtual Tools\VirtualTools.ini file -- (Program Files (x86) if you're on a 64 bit system)

VT = [&A]spire,..\Aspire 4.0\Aspire.exe, 0, 1

that will let you run Aspire 4 from the Tools menu assuming you've installed Aspire and the ShopBot programs to the default locations.

Can't see any way (short of placing dummy registry entries) of doing the same thing in the Easy interface though
