Eugene Have your customer save the file as a relief , I think you should be able to paste it then into 2012. or go to the ArtCam forum and ask there

is it a 2d file or 3d? if it's a 3d then have him export it as a .STL and send you and then almost any program can open it.
I thought all these pgms were backward compatible meaning AC2012 should open a AC2009 file?

2012 can open a 2009.. But a 2009 can not open a 2012.. I designed in 2012 he has a 2009.. I had it in dxf and dwg plus eps... So he was able to import it to art cam 2009... I am looking for a new 2009 artcam.. That is legal for me to buy.. I want one that i can lic it..
So that when i design older version can use the file ..

I see what you're saying eugene...but if you are saving it as a .dwg, that's a 3d file right? Then why can't you save it as a .stl, and import it into any number of pgms? Or is it more of a vector file?
I was confused about who had what version, ect.

Jack I have the 2012 version of artcam. That is one of the formats that I saved the files in on the first 45 patterns in. I also saved them in aspire, dxf dwg, and as a eps file.. My customer had art cam 2009 which would not open the artcam 2012.. He finally imported them from the dxf file into art cam 2009, Gary with Beckwithdecor helped him.
seems to me to be more vector oriented files
