Just got my new 5hp Colombo spindle and have been planning it's installation. I could use some help from those of you who have done this before.

1) Adaptor plate for new spindle. Does anyone have plans or can one buy an adaptor plate to fit the 5hp Colombo spindle to the PRT Z carrage?

2) Are the springs heavy enough to support the heavier spindle?

3) Has anyone come up against any clearance problems when mounting their spindle?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
George

George,
1) Yes. I *believe* that ShopBot sells them seperately.

2) No. You will need to upgrade to the dual coil configuration that is found on the newer tools. You will want to keep the Z-speed conservative on your PRT since you are running a 3.6:1 stepper. Many PRTs (including mine) had 7.2:1 geared stepper on the Z to compensate for the additional mass of the Colombo.

3) You should have no clearance problems with the 5HP if you only have one Z. If you have 2 Z axes then things get a bit tight...or impossible to accomodate depending on what you are mounting.
