View Full Version : went on vacation and KA-BOOOOM!

I recently took a few well deserved days off. While I was away the phone calls and e-mails about where is this and how do I do that continued on a daily basis. Then poof they stopped and I thought it weird but enjoyed it none-the-less. When I returned to work I found out why they stopped... Nobody wanted to tell me they broke the bot.
I fired up the machine today and both the x and Y proximity switches are working "backwards", the Y-axis won't move at all, and the SB3 software keeps ging me errors that my axis' are beyond my table limits!
I don't know what they did or what else I am going to find out is broke but can anyone help me get past these first issues?

update- plugged the bot into my laptop and everything was fine. knowing the proble is definatly the control PC I removed and reinstalled the SB3 software and drivers but nothing changed....

I would start by doing a UR command and reset everything.

I spent the last few hours combing over every variable and assigned value I could find and comparing the ones on the pc to the ones on the laptop and everything checked out. Then I looked up and saw the clock... It was fudge this o'clock, I used windows system restore and rolled the whole PC back to before I went one vacation, some of these chuckle heads may have lost some work but that's what they get for breaking it in the first place!

when you reinstall software or go to a new version you need to redo your firmware:eek:

yes I know, I am actually planning to roll back my SB3 software, the latest update is just to buggy, constant problems even today I am ready bang my head against the wall

Scary - just got back from 10 day vacation and I'm afraid to fire up my bot, not knowing what has happened to it and the control computer while turned off and unplugged during my whole vacation. :D

I'll bet something has happened though and it will take me a couple of days to fix the problems that creeped in while it was unplugged from power. :eek:

Holiday gremlins creeping in is second only to magic smoke leaking out ;)

This is the source of your problems...They tend to sneak in at night and find their way into your control box because they are attracted to the invisible electron waves emitted by your control box.
Once these gremlins get in they can make their way into your computer and wreak havoc their too.

I believe the first guy to capture one of these on film nicknamed him "Rarry". If i were you i'd take a blacklight tube, turn out all your shop lights and sit there with the control box door open and you might see one jumping out of the box running around, they tend to glow in the light of a blacklight....:rolleyes::D

I could deal with gremlins, I wish gremlins were my problem. But no, its the ..... 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, deep breath, be nice, some people are just not as well versed in all that is ShopBot and there refusal to except that and admit that someone knows something they don't causes tools to break alot around here.

On another note, everything seems to be running fine since I rolled the PC back, I am starting to notice the times the 'bot went haywire where when cutting simple shapes, large cirlces and squares. Right now I am cutting toy boats about 100 per sheet in 8 different shapes and it running flawlessly. Almost like the gifted kid who refuses to do his classwork because its "to easy".
