I spun my C2 clip off, tore the wires out of the little grey connector, and now I have no Zero Capabilities.
I ordered a new Clip from Shopbot and it arrived, I plugged up everything and it still does not work. I have looked for a diagram but cannot find one.
With the connector facing me, the red wire is in slot zero on the far right of the connector, what is the color codes for the other wires?
Thanks David

Far left is green, and the second round slot from the left is the black wire along with the black wire from the Grounding clip.

David a kind person sent the pic after I nearly killed my wife! Since then, I took the forumittes advice and stopped clamping onto the bit. Works a treat!

One Brady Watson set up our machine for us and grounded the router in such away that we don't need the clip at all. It is still hooked up because when the brushes in the router start to go we will need it, but then again I'll know when its time to change the brushes to!

Not unthinkable at all.. I did it too!
Its annoying to learn things the hard way, but I have made a long list of mistakes. My best hope is the list I will be creating in the future will be shorter!
David- sorry to hear about the incident, but glad to see you coming along on the machine! It wont be long you will look back an laugh at these experiences..

Thomas, the brushes doesn't have any thing to do with it. The ground goes thru your case and bearings.

I don't think i've ever clamped onto the router bit. I have always clamped onto the bolt holding one of the Vrollers on the Z carriage and i've never had a failure or false/bad reading.

I now always take the clip off FIRST and then pick the z plate off the table...
hang in there David.

Been there. Done that. Got the blush of shame to prove it!
If you didn't make mistakes from time to time, it would mean you ( a) were not using your machine or (b) you have never challenged yourself a all.
Get over it. It is a minor embarrassment and nobody ever died of embarrassment (that I know of!!!)

Thanks for the Pic Bob, and thanks to all, but I have another question, it seems that there are 4 holes and only 3 wires that go into it? Where does the Clamp wire fit into this? I know it does not go into that 4th hole, as it does not work when I put it there.

Yay!!! Something I've not screwed up yet!!! :)
Sorry guys, I'm just excited. I have a set screw on the side of my router strap that is real handy, so that's what I've always used. Had I thought to clip on the bit, I'm sure I'd be on the list.

The desktop with spindle has not shipped yet, but I can see myself doing that. On the desktop is there a work around to eliminate using the clip altogether? Probably a stupid question, but just asking as search seemed to give me nothing relevant. This forum made the difference in purchasing, thanks

I don't use the clip but I always touch the plate to the bit and see if my light lights up. I have the HSD 2.2 spindle on this one but the PC router on the old one and have been doing this for 6 years

OK David, since no one has asked, and we all have had this thought.....
How did you accidentally turn the router on since there is a built in "failsafe" in the software that pops up a screen that basically says "Did you remove the alligator clip?" and you have to click that before you proceed?
Just thought i'd ask, since we were all thinking it...:D
(just giving you a little jazz:rolleyes:)

ok, I am not ashamed, I am a dyslexic, OCD, Insomniatic, Athiest. I lie awake at night wondering if there really is a dog?
Bust seriously, I was talking to my buddy, we were engaged in a deep rooted philosophical discussion of something or another at the time. Just like that, the failsafe was IGNORED, and the go button was pressed. Presto Jacked up C2 operations.'
I admit that it was just a lack of concentration and focus on saftey that led to this situation. I need to do better, or risk greater damage to the bot, myself or dog forbid, someone else.

However, I am still at a loss as to the exact location of the connection of the clip in reference to the picture that was posted earlier. I have 4 holes, red, black and green wires in 3 of those holes. A black wire with an alligator clamp on one end and no where to put it?!??

David: Click on the picture-you just may see TWO black wires going into the connector next to the ground! I would imagine people were hoping you would look closely at the previous replies and see the answer given.
ADD anyone?:D

David, It's probably safe to assume the clips are an out-sourced, generic component used by many companies for many applications and are used by SB simply because they serve the need for a snap-together connector but don't require that all the holes be filled to work correctly. I'd not worry about the unused hole in this case.

Mine already has 2 wires coming out of the ground plug. I will take a closer look at it Friday when I get home.

I am not saying that I know from personal experience, but in order to preserve your bits and your sanity tap the bit with the plate before you zzero to check continuity.

So if you don't use the clip, and the light comes on when you touch the plate, You are safe to go?

That is what I found. I haven't used the clip in 6 years.

2 Shopbots - 10 years - never used a clip - never had a problem. The 1st Shopbot never had a clip. I tried the 2nd one without a clip and it worked fine.
