Well I have running the 3.8.6 for couple months with only couple minor issues. Today had a very strange and concerning issue. Of course I will send message to shopbot support so they are aware.
I am cutting solid oak for cabinet door panels and I made a toolpath boo boo and had the cutter cut .8" deep in one pass instead of my normal .28" each pass. I hit the spacebar on the keyboard and the machine kept cutting and then all of sudden the Shopbot control software shut completely down...closed. I had something like this once before when I hit the estop but I didn't think much of it at the time. I am shocked that the software completely shut down. The router was certainly at maximum amperage when it was hogging the full depth of the cut. My control pc and the router are NOT on the same circuit as well. Just wondered if any others may have had a similar experience?????:eek::eek:

It did the same thing to me yesterday when I tried to stop the bot with the space bar and clicked on the stop button in the control software.

Yup, it's happened to me too a couple of times. I let Shopbot support know too about the Sb3 software just shutting down when I was reporting an issue with the estop but they just kind of glossed over the software shutdown and told me to try using the spacebar instead of the estop, which does work. Estop consistently doesn't work with 3.8.x so I just hung it on it's hook and haven't used it since.

I would think this is a MAJOR safety issue. If the router/spindle is in material with the bit spinning and SB3 just decides it is done for the day and goes home, it leaves the bit spinning in the wood, teaching us all about the results of a lot of friction on wood - FIRE.

NOT GOOD! Another reason not to upgrade to 3.8....

These kinds of critical issues surface from time to time with even the very best of products. What's important is how quickly and effectively they are responded to, even if it means setting aside current pet or high profile projects for a bit. That's what sustains existing and builds further goodwill - rather than the opposite. Fingers crossed.

I have had it happen both with estop and the keyboard. I am going to try and simulate the issue again later today when machine is done its work.

NOT GOOD! Another reason not to upgrade to 3.8....

I love those guys at SB. They support us like rabid dogs. They provide updates to us at no charge and they go way over and above what some of the others might do. But, at the end of the day, I don't have the resources to pay for the time & wood that could get trashed because I did not perform a valid risk/reward assessment for each and every upgrade.

So I never made the jump. While weighing the risk/value not to upgrade and the risk/value to upgrade. The high risk and barely perceivable value of the upgrade made it an easy choice. Stay where you(me) are.

Perception is reality.

My experience is a bit different. I am having no problems with 3.8.6 and have been using for several months. I am in no way a heavy user of this machine. I do have a dedicated win7 stripped to bones with no internet and no virus protection. I feel like the install of new version did not completely uninstall the old. I ran the new for a couple of weeks and had to go back to older version. When I did that I was basically forced to do a complete uninstall of all Shopbot control software. Ran ccleaner re-booted and verified nothing left. I did have to call those great guys at tech support. They had me search for some registry keys and for the life of me cant remember which ones, but I did exactly as they said because they found some that were not removed automatically. re-ran ccleaner again. re-booted and then installed new version. You can always go back to previous version. Sometimes I think usb cables need blown out and reseated I check my usb connections a lot. I am using a laptop with a usb hub the IOGEAR that came with it years ago. I bought a second laptop with 3 usb ports so I can run the two shopbot cables and a wireless mouse without the hub someday. For now second machine is my development machine with internet and all design software.

This has been working for me... again this is a hobby and not a needed source of income

Like was stated before it can happen with any machine. I have had it happen on the Biesse rover pod and rail that I run and also the Biesse flat table machine that the other guy runs.

I am half waiting to have an interrupt, but so far so good. I can always go back.

So far I've also had zero issues with the new operating system.

Havent had an issue for 3 months. Couldnt live without those magic "radio" shortcut buttons. Really speeds things up and it avoids collisions!
