This is something not related to the shopbot, but figured you guys may give me some help. I am sanding with a bosch orbital sander with a vacuum hose hooked to the shop vac. Tired of changing filters! I would like to find a small radial blade vacuum/blower with 1 1/2" inlet and 1 1/2" outlet that could exhaust the dust outside my shop through a pvc pipe.

I would suggest a cyclone dust collector. Less filter issues with this type of unit.

Talmadge emptying vac bags is a real pain. We made up a vac cart and inserted an Oneida dust deputy before the vac. Much easier to empty with no bags to worry about and provided you never let it get totally full you wont have to touch the filters. These cyclones are truly amazing. In Australia if we did as you are suggesting the environmental people would throw us in jail!

He would not have it just blowing outside for long.. His wife would be screaming or his neighbors would be... That dust will make it back into the house.

Eugene he could use the patented Jack method and let his doggie roll around in it!

with that fine dust and small hose a shopvac is about the only choice and the dust deputy does nothing for that fine dust. a regular dc will not pull enough air through a tool hose.

I live in rural area. No wife. No neighbors, except for my mother and brother, their no problem. My house is over 600 feet from shop. I don't see expelling fine organic flour wood dust into atmosphere as an enviromental issue. I have a large whole shop vacuum/blower system that blows to a dust pile outside shop. I would just like this unit be specific to my sanding area.

All of my equipment including my hand held sanders goes to my 5 hp cyclone dust collection system. This includes my belt sander, orbital sander, 1inch belt sander and oscillating sander. The only time I have had to change the filters is when I allow the 55 gallon drum to over fill and spill over to my filter, other than that each morning I use the shaker part of the system to drop down any dust that made it to the filter. I only empty that bag once or twice a year. I empty the 55 gallon drum almost every day. (3/4 to 7/8 full.) Where I bring in rough kiln dried wood. I have to straight edge it, plan it then rip it to size. I produce a lot of saw dust every day. My lathe is the biggest dust producer in the shop.
The Shop Bot Does better now with the hair skirt. Less dust being left behind and no marks or scratches from the plastic skirt. I plan on adding a air line to blow air onto the bit this month. I think that this will help extend the bit life and keep the shaving suspended longer so the collection system will pick it up faster.
