Those are just beautiful Joe. I remember a while back one of the botters doing some screen/storm doors that were also very artistic. Thanks for the posts, I always enjoy your artistic postings. Russ

Very bad day is, "No pictures and no copy's" after 100's of hours and you realize all you get is paid for it and can't show it ever.

Word. This is why you don't see me posting many project pics anymore. Seems when you work with 'exclusive' clients on 'exclusive' projects, that displaying your work would shatter the illusion that they had elves make it...:D

Nice Joe, meeting a 4'th generation hand carver (Tom Cote) tomorrow, To show him the Desktop as he's speaking only 75 miles away tomorrow. He's from up north where our project will eventually wind up. Most of your doors you show are something like he would carve, Interested in his opinion on shopbot, cnc. 6 Months ago I would have poo-poo'd machine carving vs. hand until I saw what you guys are doing and tried to do it myself.

Very nice doors Joe. Wish Someone would come up with patterns for doors like those and the one that I have posted..Thanks for Sharing and posting. I can draw 1/d so if anyone ones to partner up with doors I can draw them if someone else could make them look 3/d.. let me know.
Woops,
The doors I last posted entitled "Doors worth looking over" were some examples of International Carving. These aren't mine and I have no idea how they were made but think they are of significant quality to be viewed. Sorry if there isn't a how too.
I'd absolutely love to see photo's of exclusive clients done by Brady Watson. We need to see more. How about some of those 3d scans and the end products. I'd love to see some photo's showing the step by steps. Or for suggestions on finishing, glazes and textures.
To see a smattering example of my humble work, please check out "Sign Craft Magazine" Sept/Oct. issue. They published a four page interview about my background and the process of opening up a dimensional sign shop.

Its called machine carving for a large Log Home Co. I had to sign and Disclosure Agreement.
Hand carving and chainsaw carvings are called works of art but machine carvings are not (in most cases) when you carve door panels or any kind of carving for them as they do not use commercial images and if you create a image for them it becomes there property, they pay for that right.

I have seen several "woodland scene" carved doors, you see them mostly out west in Montana ,ect alot on log homes. I think there is a botter who makes alot of those, forget who it is....
I have to replace my front door, frame and all and i've thought about carving some type of nice carving and now that we're on the subject, my thought was to just buy a plain flat wooden door in a frame and thought about carving something and attaching it to the door rather then carving the door itself.
I was thinking i could take the door off the hinges after it's installed and carve a recess that this carving would be inset into. But because it will have a screen door that will increase the heat on the door what wood or material would be best to carve the scene that will be inset into the door? What would be a good way to attach this so i could change it out if i wanted to put something different in?

Joe,
Thanks for the kind words. I'd like to show more stuff...believe me!
Dan,
You hit the nail on the head. Customers pay for that exclusivity. What many reading this may not get is that people want unique - they want exclusive. In other words, "Make that for me, then break the mold so I don't see it at the neighbor's house." My customers are in a different sector of the market and have never asked me to carve generic 3D clipart.
I've signed plenty of non-disclosures...ranging from well known musical instrument companies, High end game table companies and private customers that just want to keep a tight leash on their idea. This more often includes scanning than machining. I simply transform their physical shapes into a digital format. They own it all, and their data is never shared with another soul.

For sign guys making doors its a big leap mortise tendon or tendon mortise .There a lot of skill plus hanging the door
I made this door for myself I used free clipart from one of Jacks site .I didn't like the tree borders but it grows on me
I have this door in my temporary showroom at the mall my wife is getting impatient will post when installed
also see side panel that's was all shopbot there is money in these panels
I hoping when sales stopping taking all my time to come up with original designs I love doors as much as sign work
A fiberglass door cost 3000 in these parts so a wood carved door starting at 3500
Thanks Joe for your time in keeping the creative juices flowing I read all your posts
Good to see these doors. I'm just itchin to make a custom door but I know I'm way out of my element. There's lots of skills to pull one of these panels off.
Keep up the good work.

Here is my shop door: :) 2.25" solid. I am a star wars fan
Naw, I've been creating with high end customers for thirty years and many of the best artists I know have also but never been asked for exclusive like that. I gotta post this around the other forums for a few chuckles. Youre just kidding aren't you.
Come on, no one, on this planet creates such exclusive objects they are off limits to the public except in AREA 51. Unless you're working for the government now?

Well, when you work in signage its made to be looked at, but if'n you do doors there made to be closed..just sayin.
But when you carve for the largest Log Home builders on the planet and they get you to sign a document that say's if'n you post our files or pictures of same on any forum without express written consent, we will own your butt..more or less.
also Wally World or Canadian Tire and many more if you build carve, make for them they have all the advertising rights, you have none..
So, if'n it give you chuckles to say it ain't so, well I love chuckles..go for it.
Naw, All you gotta do is ask. Every company in the world loves to get their name out front. It's standard practice to ask permission when posting. I've had lots of pieces presented in national publications and on forum, both here and internationally, but you need to say please.
When you brag on a customers product they get all puffed up and proud of you. What you can't do is claim you've done the whole job when you haven't. I often state when the art or finishing is done by others. I even let everyone know the installation is done by others. Can hardly wait to tell other artists about exclusivity.

Everyone interested with finding new idea's and those who want to find out what's going on with design should sign up for Pinterest Weekly. There you will find the best idea's. It's Free.
I've posted an example done by JoJo Navy as an example of beautiful wood routing.. When you visit follow the panels titled Art, Design, Layout, Type, or something like that. Don't give up just keep searching. They will usually have several hundred artists posting. There are thousands of following artists who post regularly. I always find good idea's over there.
Most if not all these artist are showing what they have done or are doing for national accounts. But that's not what we are interested, it's the process of creating that makes for interest. You'd think this was all exclusive. Not so!
I'll post more on exclusive accounts a little later but I gotta tell you that's a big bug-a-boo.

The issue of exclusivity is nothing new - the rich have always paid for one of a kind carvings, works of art or furniture. I have no problem taking their money in exchange for some unique artwork and not sharing pics with you knuckle-draggers. :D

Dan,
You should see the disclaimer at the bottom of my attorneys faxes.
Look, you gotta have some proportion about this topic. If I were them I'd promise torture also.
Over at the Vetric Forum lots of guys get their panties in a wad over Copy Rights. The big picture is, very few of the disclaimers are ever acted upon. The first step any person or company with a complaint will be to let you know there is a problem. Then there is a follow up from them. If you have made some kind of error, no problem. Just say thanks and "Sorry" and refrain from doing it again. No company, NONE, wants to sue you or me because we don't have any MONEY. It costs too much, with no hope of large financial recovery.
Twenty years ago I painted a sign for a VW Auto Repair shop and used their log. That will get you a quick note from the company. They sent a contract that spelled it all out, we were not allowed to use their name or logo. My attorney said they could do that. I took the sign down and wrote them a note letting them know it was removed. That's about all any company or person can do. So stop shakkkking. Use your good common sense and you'll be alright.

I think no being able to take pictures and make a portfolio its hard to sign the next job when your starting out
A lawyer told me once in Montreal Subway restaurant have more leans put on there projects .They have the contract rigged you have to put cabinets in a certain time .But here the kicker you work for the general contractor who might not tell you this but your suppose to know .How legal is this
The bottom line is if you allow the client[contractor] call the shots payment scheduled etc make the contract I'll guaranteed you'll be eating cat food
Its important for an artist, cabinet maker to take control of the contract payment scheduled in your favor ,They have time delays there paying storage etc. When the shoe is on the other foot
Ive done this with the last 2 contracts commercial jobs saved my ass .When they threatened to sue me I was protected
Contractors prey on guys starting out .That's why I love working with private people I can take all the pictures I want
I write this not to vent but be careful .Don if you read Canadian Tire agreement if you have an employee they have to sign
Bady put his finger on it. Too many knuckle draggers over here!
I didn't say that.

I have a customer who is having me prototype a product that doesn't want pictures or discussion. As long as he keeps writing me checks he can dictate the terms of our agreement, that's part of what you're getting paid for.:D

Kevin, I don't do anything for Canadian tire, did try on there local initiative and it got popular and they proposed that they sell the product in all stores and I would have to have certain inventory so I said no and they shipped it off to Korea or china and I never heard from them again.
I mostly was pulling "Joes" chain cause he is a sneaky "bugga" but so am I.. I think I'm older than him to but he doesn't show any respect at all.
Tommorow morning I am going to my old buddies business its called quality excavating and I will put services into a new shop and Office complex, I will have on the ground helpers I will sit in a 320 cat hoe and dig the trenches sewer 6inch line, water 2 inch line 3 phase electrical and telephone conduits will be layed and covered, its only a couple of hundred feet so it won't take long.
I am retired, but there is just so many fun things to do out there..
If you want to know what I do Jeo take a look at my wifes and my facebook page..
