View Full Version : Cutout MDF Letters
Shops in my area are selling decorative letters cut out of 1/4" - 3/8" MDF. These shops are ordering the letters from out of state. After seeing the names and dates that I V-carve in toy and wedding chests, several shops have ask me to cut letters for them. Most of the letters are not standard fonts, but very scrolled, curvy letters. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the software to draw or obtain vector files for these letters? Thanks so much for any assistance.

Mike we gave this a bash but found its a lot of work for not much return and you really need to use 1/8 cutters. Think you might mean scripty fonts!!! So that a name can stand up?? Ythis is easy to do in Vectric and there is a great training video on this type of operation (43 minutes). There are a heck of a lot on ebay floging this in Oz.
Thanks to much for your immediate replies. I plan to research costs and time before accepting any orders. I was looking for projects to fill down time for my Bot, but handling the MDF sheets and the dust (I have good dust collection, but MDF is still a mess). I may back out. Thanks again. Mike
I'm in trouble now...my wife likes the interlocking vine monogram font signs. She ask me why I can cutout a sign for her on my expensive toy? I have discovered the letter type is vine monogram, but I haven't located files. I found dxf files for various fonts, but not the interlocking vine type. Someone must be cutting these signs on their bot. Can someone point me in the right direction? My #1 customer has placed an order!!! Thanks.

Install the font in Windows and it will be picked up by Aspire/VCarve/Partworks.
or for a cheaper solution just buy them ready done and say you did them!

Thanks so much for both suggestions. I like the second suggestion if her request stops with her sign. I'm concern she will want others for Christmas gifts to family. Not thinking negatively, but looking at reality.
