PRT 4g upgrade or RBK box?

I have a 2001PRT and am looking to upgrade to the 4g board in the next 6 months. What is the big difference between the 4G upgrade and the RBK box upgrade? Other than the cool looking box it is installed in and the price difference? Do I need to consider the RBK upgrade instead?

The 4G setup will be fine. You'll pull out your old board, put in the new board & be rolling in 10 minutes (ok maybe 30 if you've never done it before). There is no difference in performance between the two, aside from maybe some higher top speed on the RBK due to a hotter power supply (48v vs 63v)

Years ago I called shopbot for the 4g and I was informed they did not offer it anymore so I went with the RBK for around twice the cost. Do they still offer the 4G?

I have been happy with the rbk but it was a pricey upgrade.

I'm pretty sure they re-introduced it...call to be sure. It was unavailable for a short time.

V4G is available as of an inquiry today. But for me, the "buy a whole new desktop" approach makes more fiscal sense; when I might get to that point of sense is another issue, but it's good to have options... meanwhile, puttering nonsensically along.

3.8.10 ??? just load, update firmware and go ? do you have to re tweek all the other settings ?

The current prices are $1495.00 for the 4G and $2695.00 for the RBK. The 4G upgrade isn't compatible with PR tools though as the power supply for the stepper motors is the wrong voltage.

Yes. Any v201+ card will run v3.8.10

I upgraded my PRS from the 4g to the RBK. I should say I have the control box here but haven't done the swap yet. I also upgraded my motors. I am considering whether to keep the 4g control cabinet (pc box) and motors or to sell them. I would consider offers if anyone is interested. I am running the 3.8 control software with no issues.
