Hey Gene how much longer will it take to recover your money from the PR.:)
Jerry-
Hard to say how long ago it did that...
this run for the pr, 10 blanks, 40 individual panels $90 each panel
have maybe 6k total into machine
took awhile to make a market but finally we are booked with work for both machines...

Gene,
So these were individual screens of about 1 ft sq each? And it kept the Bot busy how many days?
Now if they will come back from some custom mouldings, window dressings, doors, etc.... they will make your 2014 for you!
sizes varied from 12 x 12 to 36 x 44...more designs on their way, didn't really keep track of the days but both machines have been running just about every day since last sept on these panels and other projects, we be busy!
myxpykalix
02-11-2014, 08:24 PM
did you get paid yet? Was it in dollars or pesos'?:D
Jack, both dlls and pesos...waiting on final draw, 30%
more panels added...wait till you see the ones for the main entry...:D
Is that a chamfer bit in the machine ? What are you going to do when you get done?
bits used for most of the panels 3mm end mill 22mm 90 deg vbit. machines booked solid until july with various projects...took a while, 3 yrs but the snowball effect is happening for the cnc part of this business...we are starting to be known as the go to shop for outsourcing of specialty parts for other shops in los cabos :)

Gene, Dad just drove down for the day and we got talking, at one point he said "There's not much artistic production work out there, and if there is there's no way to make a business of it". Scrambled to find your thread as it popped into my mind first. He apologized and said if I ever got the chance to tell you "He does Da-- fine work and I'm impressed". He left 5 minutes ago to visit Abacus in town(I made him promise), to see the market I'm after. Good work.:)

“It's not uncommon for an individual or business to "outgrow" their machine... A crafter can get more work than his smaller machine can keep up with or a cabinet shop can't keep up with demand using their middle size tool. These are good problems! Rather than be upset that such and so brand tool can't do the job, recognize a tools limitations and be glad it got you to the point where you need something else! The tool you buy is often determined by your volume of work.”
A quote from my up and coming book…
Gene… personally, I look forward to your continued posts no matter what machine you use!

I dig the Desert Racing looking Trophy Truck setting there.. Is that your daily driver?
About how much revenue did the old bot bring in from an investment point?
Was it the first cnc you purchased?
The reason I ask is that by bot was the first cnc I purchased . As for learning cnc it has been a wonderful road to go down . It is ( at the time I purchased my ) bot a entry level machine and it has done wonderful for me to learn on .
If I were to purchase another cnc it would have more bells and whistles '
Its kind of like my motorcycles . My first one was a Honda , but now I ride a Harley.
Jack-no longer have a bot and I think I know your kidding...
Steve/Scott-thank you
John-foto is in front of new owners shop and that's his truck
Gene-sold the machine for what I had invested in it $7500...easily paid for itself at least 3 times

Well, it's past Gene now. Went right over his town with 115 sustained and gusts to 135. Strongest to ever hit Baja. His shop should be fine and it sounds like that's where he's weathering it. The only issue with those kind of buildings tends to be the bay doors. Cheaper ones have been known to blow out.
Might be a bit till we hear from him as there is likely utility outage all over.
Cabo is on generators this morning and he's in a smaller town nearby.

Gene,
That's the roughing path for one of the ceiling decorations, right? 5' x 10'? about 3" thick? How long for the roughing path and how long for the finishing path of something that big??? And what % of the wood is left when the machining is complete? 30%?
tiled toolpaths for each panel...pocket-roughing-finish 75mm thick panel machining depth 47mm don't know % left...all i know is it's a lot of chips...
starting to take shape...close to 72hrs for completed panel...lots of chips

Gene,
You must give the customers a rate that is in consideration of long run times... in other words not a retail rate if you can do 1 set up and turn it on and walk away for a long number of hours and let her run... ( Yes. Yes. A "checkup" every now and then, but not constant vigilance)
Is it a percentage after X time or what?
(Oh: And YES, I love the great stuff we see you doing!)
