Attempting to learn VCarve Pro and design prior to screwing up my Desktop & the wood
In the attached pic of a plaque I am trying to design for a couple of persons
One will tool path fine, then another one will give message when I attempt to toolpath the seal Tool will cut through the material, material 0.75 max tool cut is 0.886.
I do not change any setting one works one doesn't
I can't locate where and how to change the cutting depth of the V Bit
any help will be appreciated.

If it's a VCarve toolpath then the depth is set (if you don't specify flat depth) by the distance between the vectors. The further apart they are (and/or the more actute the VBit angle) the deeper the cut is.

There is a good explanation of how it work in the Help along with diagrams.

If you haven't seen them then it's worth going throught the VCarve tutorial videos and FAQ's at http://support.vectric.com

Just a suggestion Jerry! This project to me looks far tooooooooo ambitious for a first timer. You could negate the need for valium by cutting your teeth on simple signs first using preferablly files made by others. There are a ton of these on the Vectric forum and TJ on this forum has hours of instruction on the Desktop and again you can download the files. A fantastic feature in V Carve is the preview screen. If it doesnt look right it absolutely positively will not cut correctly. You cant really hurry learning CNC however you do have a heck of a lot of fun learning it provided you arent on some sort of deadline!

Jerry: It looks like the deep spot is next to the bullets separating the top and bottom text in the seal. You can check it by hovering your cursor over the deep spot in 3-d view and looking at the z value there. You should also have a depth of model given once you create the toolpath and simulate. I use Artcam, but I'm pretty sure these two tools are in Vectric as well.

It also looks like the UN in United on the seal is screwed up and United is smaller than States of America. Check this out in your artwork. You shouldn't have any letters overlapping each other and some vector joining or loop issues can cause the software to ignore them when cutting, thus creating to large a space between and the bit going too deep. If that is fixed and you still get it then:

You should be able to fix this one (or both) of two ways:
1. Spread the letters out so they are closer to the bullet. If you have Kerning options in the text tool that can do it for you and if you don't it is a manual thing.
2. Use a larger v-bit. If you are set for a 60, try a 90, etc. You may still want to use a sharper bit on the smaller text and eagle, but the surround should still look great with a wider one.

As a new user, I would suggest cutting this in something cheap and easy first, like MDF or foam. Other then that, it looks like you are doing fine-go for it

As Adrian has said, use the flat bottom feature say at .2 and that should solve that. If it doesn't use a bigger v bit angle and make seperate tool paths for each of the carving, so if you wanted to go a little deeper on one you can.

Adrian, It looks like the issue is around the two dots near the text (about 8:00 and 4:00). I would simply make them larger (to reduce the cutout area) or maybe insert some other geometry like maybe a star or a flat uncut area? Basically you need to find a way to reduce the cutout. If you would like, send me your eps file and I will try a couple of options? good luck and let us know how it works out.
