Are there any sort of pencils or fine-line pens that are usable as a tool?

Several times I've wanted to draw alignment marks on parts and to do that I've made a shallow cut with a V-groove tool. However, a more precise and visible line would be better.

I see that there is a ShopBot plotter pen too:

However, both the home-made and ShopBot pens look to be too long for easy use with the Desktop. Anyone know the overall length of the plotter pen?

I made one out of brass fittings that uses mini sharpies - I'm not in the shop, but I think it's about 3" long. The tip isn't overly fine, but works well for what I use it for...
