Hi all,

just getting into some 3D trials with the shopbot and wanted to see if was ok to post a file up here to see if there are any suggestions on cutting speeds, directions etc to ,minimise cutting time.

We've played around with lots of settings /options but being new to this can't be sure we have the best settings.

Obviously limited here by file size so any way to work around this?

My best advice is to contact the company that made your pattern. Most do not want you to post their cut files. Pictures are normally ok.

Hi Eugene,

These are our files and they are very specific to a particular project so no problem there. I figured I could maybe post some pictures of the items we are trying to cut then some screen snips from the program that may be enough to see the settings - what do you think?

Andrew If it is your drawing etc You can post what you want. Vector Art3/d, 0ther companies do not want there files posted on line. but if it is your drawing etc you own them and can do as you please. you should never post copy righted works of others.

Ok,

the parts are a 3D foil shaped rudder and centreboard cut from 25mm ply in two halves - i.e. 4 pieces

and finally the preview with times

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h131/bloggs1968/foilspic5.jpg (http://s63.photobucket.com/user/bloggs1968/media/foilspic5.jpg.html)

I wanted to know if I am on the right track here with tool selection, speeds, feed rates etc and is there is any way to speed up the cutting to reduce the time.

Any assistance/suggestions much appreciated.

For info I am running a fairly new PRS Alpha 120-60 with a 5hp 3 phase spindle.

That how i learned 3d you could probable double you speed.look at your roughing and finishing

but if your new run at default get a feel for the machine . making sure that you don.t have computer problems and static issues

i took a second look try with out roughing and double the speed
you have a half inch ball nose for finishing i think that's good alone

i use quarter inch for 3d and no roughing

if you read one of Brady 3d speed is in ramping

If I am reading your settings correctly your plunge is set at 1 inch per minute. That could be knocked up to at least 60 inches per minute. Why 3d takes so long it will only go as fast as the slowest axis which is generally the z. It takes so long because of the ramping features and at only 1 inch per sec is very very slow.

Andrew,
Maybe go to the vectric forum or vectric.com and look for some tutorial files that are similar in some respects to what you are trying to do and download them and check out the settings on those files versus yours and try to use some of those same settings to see if that helps.

You might find that you have a "ah-ha" moment where you see by using those same settings you learn something by seeing how it's applied....

Me bad:) I didn't read the whole thing, I'm just used to inches per minute.

3D cutting is slow unfortunately.

You could increase your feed rates by quite a bit seeing as it's a 5hp Alpha

Have you actually cut any 3D jobs and timed them? Until you've adjusted the scale factor against a real world cut you're not going to know how long it's really going to take with any degree of accuracy via the simulation.
