from the shop bot web site

You will need a PC that is running Windows XP/Vista/7/8 (Home Premium / Business, or higher). We recommend the equivalent of a dual core or higher, Pentium processor, and a minimum of 2GB RAM (4GB preferred).
A graphics display of 1024 x 768 will provide a good display for the shop. If you use a separate design computer, a higher resolution may be preferable for your design work.
ShopBot requires one USB port for connection to the tool, and a second USB port for the spindle speed controller that comes on Buddies and Full Size tools with HF spindles (optional). Keep in mind that you may also need USB ports for mouse, keyboard, or other USB peripherals. A USB port to transfer Part Files to the computer is also helpful.

Bob.....those specs are basic but all you need. Windows 8 desktop is hated by those who are used to the traditional Win 7 and XP users. Win 8 interface was designed with touch screens in mind. If you want to make Win 8 look like Win 7 then read this:

Thank you all. Ended up with the Acer Aspire all in one, as per the spec above running Windows 8. Totally painless install and found the Bot on first try. Only had to silence McCaffe ( impossible to remove!!!) and change all the eco stuff to "never". The thing has never seen the internet and never will! So anybody worried about going to 8, please dont! Must be a doddle if us illiterates from down under can manage it. The old machine hung on in there and life support was turned off this morning. Now in the bin!
