I'm doing a gratis job for a small private school. It's the roadside sign for the school - several colors on V-carved 4'x8' Corafoam (HDU). I seem to remember somebody here telling of a specific brand of shelf paper that worked well for them when masking and cutting for painting. Recommendations?

Thanks!

Mike

I just use the cheap stuff from the dollar store. It works really good for me.

usually one would use premask.

but, i've seen lowe's stocking short rolls of what they call "adhesive masking" which looks a lot like light weight premask.

and it was a no go. If I tried again, I would use 2 or 3 layers of Contac to make a thicker mask which would hold multiple layers well...

It tore out with the vbit and then in some places, the adhesive just about ripped the paint off the surface.

I just use the standard premask and Rarely have problems....

=====================

I just did a quarterboard with a solid stain and then mask. The premask took the stain off so I will need to re-stain those areas. NORMALLY, I paint the surface, let dry for several days and then premask...

I won't use sold stain again.... live and learn!

What brand of premask do you use? Local supplier or do you order online?

Could the problem be you are trying to use it on HDU that is gritty and doesn't stick very well. have you tried painting the HDU first to seal it.
