This is a beautifull piece of engineering on a super small scale. Very much like the much loved South Bends - even the same colour. Fast forward to see how he adapts the screw threading gear. I loved the tailstock feed.

Thanks for posting that Bob. First time I've ever really understood it. Loved seeing him do the proto set up by hand cranking. I can just imagine the very first person going "IT WORKS!!!" :) Forwarded it to Dad as he loves "Elegant" engineering.

Very cool. It does most of what its big cousin can do.

Bob, Dad e-mailed that link to all his kids and grandkids, along with this;
"When I went into industry engineers were often assigned tool makers to make the prototypes we designed.

Rule 1, 2, and 3 for a happy day were "don't piss off the tool maker".

Most had a small lath larger than this but near as dexterous. GE retired a tool maker a few years ago and he was given his lathe when he left. It was his from the day he came into the company as an apprentice. It couldn't happen today.

The glass mold for a street light I was involved in took almost 2 years to make with all the facets and critical optical angles. Today a CNC probably pops one out in a couple days - error free."

Thanks:)
