I have had several milling machines and they have the ability to tilt the head but I have never seen a CNC router with this ability and I am not talking a 5th axis head just the ability to tilt it manually for cutting at an angle.

I have a plan in my head for making a router head tilt would there be a need for such an option? It seems it would be nice for cutting a chamfer on a board.

I have thought about making something on my mill just for the heck of it. The attachment would also give a better way to tram in the head. To be clear the head would tilt up to 45* in the Y direction. I plan also to make some adjustment to tram the head in the X direction but not to tilt that direction simply an easier way to tram the head to the table.

Not sure, but to chamfer a board you just use a chamfering bit.

I have seen a person who used a tilting head that they made on a bot that they were selling. I can think of a couple applications where it may be good... tough call. It would probably be for very special circumstances. Search old sold systems from about 18 months ago, you should probably be able to get some pics of their adaptations...

To be clear I have no interest in making these for sale I was just thinking of making one and sharing the info. I will search and see if it is like what I have pictured in my mind.

Yep I think it would be useful....just to be able to easily tram the spindle and keep it that way would be useful enough itself, also say angled dado and mortice cuts without having to jig??

How would a tool path be constructed for a router set at an angle? I doubt there are any automated tools for such a beast.
