We'd like to announce a SUMMER Camp ShopBot in ALASKA, which is better than a camp there in January! ;) Or at least for us warm weather folks.

Details are pending and we'll have them for you within the next week. Our host is the Cook Inlet Tribal Council's fab lab in Anchorage, which has lots going on!

So start your vacation plans and cross off another destination on your bucket list! :D

Ok, We are SUPER excited about the Alaska Camp. Our hosts Katie and Renee from the Cook Inlet Tribal Council Fab Lab have a great space with both a PRS alpha and a 5-axis CNC router. They teach classes to lots of kids and school groups throughout the year.

This is a 2-day Camp: July 11 & July 12

Friday: Features 'A Day in the Shop' with Randy Johnson, ShopBot's Director of Education. The day will include hands-on tips and techniques with cutting demos on both machines and machine maintenance. Attendees may bring sample material and cutting files, though we may not get to everyone.

Saturday: is the 'Camp ShopBot' format with topic-based computer presentations, Q&As, and a Show and Tell Session.

And in case the 5-axis didn't entice you to register, Alaska is beautiful in the summer:)

Looking forward to attending the 2 day camp. I own a Shopbot Desktop and have enjoy the time working with it. Until now I wasn't aware of other cmc individuals in and around Anchorage, so it will be interesting to meet everyone.

Hi Stephen, We have 8 people signed up so far for the Camp, all from around Anchorage. And we are still 2 months away! So we are sure to have more by July.

Hello,

I am located in Juneau and I am seriously interested in attending. I would like to find out more information and logistics. I am a partially paralyzed veteran in a wheelchair, so I need to look at access, transportation and hotel/motel choices and facilities.

Can you please advise?

Long time shopbot user and NW Coast Artist.

Hi Wayne,
The fab lab is located on the ground floor in its own building so there shouldn't be any accessibility issues for getting into the shop area. We'll make sure there aren't any tripping hazards, too, which is always the case for the Camps.

Here is a link to a bunch of hotels in the area. They will be better at advising about their space and rooms accessibility. Many hotels offer shuttle service to and from the airport, too.

*The blue pin off to the righthand side is where the CITCI Fab Lab is located- 3500 San Jeronimo dr. Anchorage 99508*

Anchorage has a bus system that goes all over the city- http://www.muni.org/Departments/transit/PeopleMover/Pages/Timetables.aspx
and

Hope this helps and answered some of your questions but if not, let us know what other info you need! I'll see what other info our host can offer us and get back to you.

Hello, thank you for your reply. I will be signing up for the Camp as soon as I have all the logistics figured out.

By the way, do you have an agenda yet for the two days?

Thanks Again!

We don't have a specific agenda yet. As you will see on the registration form, there is a list of about 15 or so different topics that you can choose from and a place where you can also propose a topic. Friday will be machine time-- cutting something on the 5-axis, going over machine maintenance and cutting some files on their PRS alpha, some v-carving and some 3-D or texturing/patterning. Saturday will be tackling some of the topics that attendees marked as their interests on the registration forms.
