I completed and saved a file using Machinist (Vector Art 3D) set up parameters in VCP saved the file and tool path. Used a 1/4 inch uncut bit made three passes with no problem switched to 1/8 inch bull nose zeroed bit and set x/y axis. Began cutting with the second tool and half way the program the desktop simply stopped no error message or indication of a problem. Exited the program, zeroed the second tool and reset the x/y axis entered the file plan again started the machine. The second time the bit failed to come in contact with the material verified the bit was secure in the collet. Any suggestions?

Stephen, Any chance of a static issue, or line surge or something kicking in to cause line drop? Have you run file before? When you do a fixed distance Z move to 0 does it touch material? Did you totally reboot? Any chance finish toolpath got corrupted? Did it stop cut in material and keep spinning or did it retract? If static or surge I once had to do a UR as settings had changed that I didn't notice, but I'm pretty much running standard settings, so If you have modded yours much and haven't saved them then you may want to wait for someone better than me. Worn collet and bit combo did that once with 1/8" as far as your air cut. Good luck.

What are the specs on your computer? (How much RAM, What operating system? Brand?) How long is your USB cable? - just the factory one? What version of SB3 (Help->About) are you running?

In SB3, run UT - read the instructions CAREFULLY and then run UD. Report the number you get after following the instructions outlined in UT.

Oh Yeah, check USB connections and packet size. Thanks Gene.

Happened twice to mee and both times it was a loose ground wire to the chassis of da' bot. Both times I was cutting a lot of plastic so lots of static discharge I guess. Removing the ground wire, cleaning the contact patch and reattaching the ground seemed to cure it. Russ
