View Full Version : 3.8.10 - Keypad causing prox limit / z-play zeroing problems

Hi everyone. I spend sometime on a ShopBot that was upgraded to 3.8.10. Ever since, I've consistently run into a few problems, one of which I'll detail here. I'm hoping you all can help!

When setting up a job, I do four things:

• Zero x/y using prox switches
• Use the keypad to jog the cutter to the origin of my board (take a picture of the x,y for when the system locks up :roll eyes:)
• Zero the x/y
• Zero the z using the contact plate

After updating to 3.8.10, I very often find myself in a situation where XYzero.sbp or zzero.sbp lock up while trying to move the tool.

Specifically:

XYZero.sbp locks up on:
line 98: If %(3) < &zup Then MZ, &zup

zzero.sbp locks up on:
line 64: if %(3) < &zup then MZ, &zup 'Make sure we're clear...

Whenever it locks up, I have to kill all the shopbot processes and start over.

I think it happens when I try to run a zeroing process (that requires tool movement) while the yellow Keypad is up. If I remember to close the keypad window before zeroing with prox switches or the plate, it doesn't seem to wedge up.

Is this a known problem. Any thoughts on if a patch is available?

Thanks!

I would upgrade the control software to the latest and try

Not sure Which Vectric you're running, but wouldn't hurt to upgrade all. Also like Jerry said upgrade to 3.8.14 from second link and update firmware. Hope it helps.

Agreed, update to 3.8.14. 3.8.10 was one of the worst ones for issues of all kinds. After doing the update, reset to your default values.

Coming back to this. They upgraded their machine to 3.8.14 and it has many of the same problems, including a new one. Before when you moved back and forth too fast with the keypad, the system would just stop responding. The cutter would freeze in place. Now when you move back and forth too fast, the cutter will move uncontrollably in the last direction you sent until you kill the executable. I had to race to kill the app before finding out what it would do when it hit the end of the rails.

That's not just the usual garbage software problem I've come to expect with these things. That's dangerous.

They have updated the firmware to go with the new versions they're installing haven't they?

What version of SB3 were you running previously? Did the tool have these same problems? Why was the software upgraded? (Just for maintenance?)

Many times the computer has a lot of background software running on it. Has the computer been gone through and ALL programs not required to run a robotic tool eliminated?

You say "moving back and forth too fast"? Just curious which model Shopbot it is and what your move and jog speeds are set at.
