I am debating on a job that requires 3d scanning. so far I have not found someone locally to do it. so debating on buying the probe. I would charge for the probe and the guy doing the editing and the cutting.

Be cautious. 3D probing can take a lot of time. If you double the resolution (distance between probe points) you quadruple the probing time. You are also likely to generate a rather rough scan of the object.

You might be better served getting someone to optically scan your piece. Touch base with Brady Watson.

I've used mine for architectural reproduction pieces, like matching damaged Lion and Gargoyle corbels and relief carvings on wainscoting, but Paul's correct. The probe takes a long time, and Brady does great work.
