Hi I have having problems with installing the spindle speed control.
I have followed all the instructions and double checked everything but its still not working.
The shopbot control software just keeps asking for a port #, I put in port 4 which is what my system info shows it to be but it just keeps returning to that screen.
here are the pictures of my setup

You should upgrade your version of SB3 to 3.6.46 and try it again. Be sure to run UI & Install the firmware.
If you still have problems, call SB Tech Support.

Returning to what screen? Are you setting the port in the spindle control dialog? Have you set the HZ and selected the right VFD in the same dialog?

where do I get the SB3 to 3.6.46 at? I looked on the site and couldn't find it
I did try the 3.8.14 version but it runs programs really slow so I went back to the one I have.

the control software 3.6.46 doesn't work with this machine
its a PRS Standard 32x24 "Buddy" the new 3.8.14 works with it just is laggy when running programs that is why I run the one that came with it.
either way I cant get it to read the speed control
hey Adrian Matthews what did you mean by
"Have you set the HZ and selected the right VFD in the same dialog? "
what is HZ??

3.6.46 will work on all PRS machines. You have to update the firmware on the control box with UI.
Try the registry hack to see if it works. Delete the Spindle Control folder in this path in the registry. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\ShopBot\Virtual Tools\Spindle Control.
If you can then open the control window with TR, click on 'rpm' and a fill in sheet will come up where you can enter the port # and HZ which should be 60 and the scale 100. Put 1 in 'Start with SB3".

Look at that spindle control folder in regedit again and see if there's a port setting of 1111. If there is, delete the folder again. There could be another spindle folder in another spot from an older version, look around a bit. I have seen it happen.
Are you sure about the port #? Use the little program called USBview in the C:\Program Files (x86)\ShopBot\Diagnostics folder to get a better look at what and where all your USB connections are.

I looked for the registry entry and it did have a 1111 for port so I deleted it , I tried again it still goes back to the port select window.
I called shopbot and they are looking into it and are suppressed to get back to me about it.

if anyone has the same USB adapter spindle control that I am trying to install could you send me a picture of the end of the cable that plugs into the usb adapter so I can compare them? the one in the guide is grey and they one that was sent to me is black so I just want to make sure the cable wires are in the correct slot on the male end of the plug.

Red to r+/s+ and black to r-/s-.
What are the port assignments shown in the USBview program mentioned earlier? You'll see two different ones for 'ShopBot'. The port window will come back if you have the wrong port # and the registry will default to 1111 when cancelling.

Is there another shopbot listed further down? I only see one there. Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in (maybe into another USB port) to see if windows re-recognizes it? Check the port# again in device manager after that and with the reg folder deleted, try it once more.

Wonder if your little USB unit is dead. ?
You did choose to install the drivers at the end of the SB3 install?

the usb unit light comes on and its brand new, and yes I did click to install the drivers, shopbot tech said they would have to get back to me on it because they said it should be working

Well thanks to Denver I was able to get the SB to recognize the USB adapter by downloading the correct drivers for the adapter, the ones that came with it where not the ones that SBC uses so it would find it and it seems to be working now but the SB still doesn't control the spindle and there is a EF4 error on the spindle control screen now.
has anyone had this error before?
