Water Resiatant and light weight MDF Suppier

I spoke to Russell plywood in New Castle Delaware, and they will be carrying a waterproof MDF within a couple of weeks. It is made by a Canadian company called Flakeboard. It is called premiere plus MR MDF and here is a link to the specs on it.

Russell plywood also carries an ultralight weight, MDF, made by a company called Tafisa and it works exceptionally well for a spoilboard.

FYI

I went to the flakeboard web site and asked for samples. They sent 3 pieces about 12" square. It looks like MDF but with a green tint.

I placed about 30 drops of water on the surface and left it for about 10 hours. When I came back the water was still beaded up on the surface. The exposed fibers got wet but that seemed to go only about .002" deep. The rest seemed to be water tight for this limited duration. I haven't cut it yet but will post results when I do.

This is about 10" wide. There were virtually no fuzzies. It could be primed just at it is.

Strangely, there was virtually no MDF odor while cutting.

Thanks Paul, I'm always looking for material like MDF that cuts clean with little or no fuzz. No MDF odor smell is also a plus. I'll see if I can get some of that MDF and give if a try. Thanks again.

This water proof MDF is also called Extera and is available in my area at Dixie Ply (dixieply.com). And it is truly water proof. I soaked a piece in a bucket of water for 24 hours with no ill effects at all.

What about painting it. or has this been discussed? Any reason to belive the water proofing treatment will interfere with paint adhesion?

Trupan is not the only brand that works well for a bleeder board. In my search for Trupan I found Tafisa from Russell plywood in Delaware. It works excellent and as Brady said a few days ago in another post just like Trupan you do not need to surface both sides for maximum air flow. The air flow is the same with or without surfacing.
