Ok, I need to profess total ignorance about this since i have never drank alcohol in my life, so i know nothing about it, however...
I'm still in the process of building this bar for my son and thought i'd like to make some beer tap handles like you see in a bar to go on a non working tap just for decoration. He won't be drinking enough beer to have a real one hooked to a keg but wondered where could i get the tap (metal spigot) part? or is it something i could make?

Jack, The easiest place would be the local brewer's supply shop. They will have the threaded end that you can insert into the turned handle ( whatever design you are looking to use. It is an approximate 3/8-16 threaded insert, and threads ONTO "male" faucet. It is essentially a threaded insert that is also externally threaded. I am almost positive that it is 3/8-16 TPI on the internal threads. But seeing one in person at the brewer's supply store would be the best, because it would give you much more detail than you can find on the web. You cna get them from any woodworking supply shop, once you know for sure the threading. They are made from brass.

just a thought... if your not hooking up a keg but want to have the tap handles for the look, why not use two taps instead of a faucet for the sink?

Jack,

Thanks for starting this thread!

Good timing on that info Joe! I was just looking for something like bottle opener/faux tap for my buddy who's starting a nano-brewery. Will look great in the lobby with the sign I made him!

Hey there Jack, It's been a while since I've been on here. I hope you're doing well. Have you tried doing a Google search? I typed in "build my own beer tap" and found some info. Hey if all else fails maybe you should go to a small local bar and chat with them. Early in the day would be best, there shouldn't be too many people in there. The small local hangouts are usually very friendly and would probably be able to help you obtain info, and may have one for you to look at. They have to take them apart and clean them . They typically clean them early in the day when they first open. They may even have some spare parts you're looking for and will sell them to you. They do have to maintain them. Don't ask me how I know this Jack!! Cheers!

Hey Ben....been busy making more of those staircases? Yes i had thought about going to a bar and asking them if they had any non working taps i could get from them.
The last time i was in a bar was when i was 15....no, not for drinking, a buddy's dad owned a bar and he would pay us to go in on sunday morning and clean up and i remember he had this chute that you dropped the beer bottles in and it would make its way to the basement and we then stacked them in boxes to go back to the beer companies.
He said any money we found in the seats he would split with us....too bad we never found any money:rolleyes:
Thanks for that tip....maybe i should take up drinking?:D:rolleyes:

Yup, been busy. (Good news, right?):) Working on a bunch of 3d carving at the moment. The bad news is I have a bearing going out in my spindle.:( Going to have to rebuild it. How about you? You been staying busy? Play with any Lions lately?
