Something I haven't really worried about but now I'm curious.......
My Z zero plate is 0.121" ... Dead on.
When I do a C2 and the bit touches the plate I notice that the Z measurement comes up as 0.119" and not 0.121".
Is this within tolerance and nothing to be concerned about or should Z read exactly 0.121" when the bit touches the plate. BTW the second touch onto the plate is the same.
Cheers

Michael, You got me curious, so went into shop. C2'd 3times, all 3 times .121". Same a setup and actual plate In the location I have marked and Z on.
Must be a super fast gremlin as he stole the thumbdrive I brought in from shop last night to work on over coffee this morning:)

Sounds to me like your setup has your z-zero plate listed as 0.119. You can check with the TS command, on the 3rd page.

Scott / Ron.....reason I asked was because getting about 0.04" discrepancy on depth of cut. That's nearly a mm! No biggy I guess and hasn't bothered me until now as was just doing through cuts mostly in alum. But now doing some more precise 2D and 3D wood and alum cutting.
So went into my_sbvariables and sure enough the zero plate had 0.119". I changed that to 0.121 (my plate thickness measured with calipers)
Now when I zero reads 0.121" but if lower the zeroed bit to 0 inches the end of the bit should just touch the table directly beneath where the zero plate was.
BUT I can slide a 0.03" feeler Guage easily underneath the bit.
So is this normal or am I missing something here with setup?

Loose pinion perhaps??

Bob checked that.....tight as a drum!
I did a UR and now z depth is down to 0.025" out (deeper). I guess this is OK?

I don't know about anything but Desktops, BUT I would say NO.
A lot of the profile on line VBit stuff we do--the Line is only .03" DEEP!
Michael, You're Z-ing on a perfectly flat/hard surface like aluminium I imagine?
Is your Z-Plate flat and are you zeroing to same spot on it each time?
Something is Funky:confused:
