I need approx 12" x 14" plate about 1/4" to 3/8" thick. I'd prefer something easy to machine like 6061 grade... but I'd like to get my hands on it today or first thing in the morning. I need to make a support bracket.
Anyone know of someplace on the South side of Atlanta? Closer to Stockbridge/McDonough/Conyers the better.
Thanks,

RB - There is a Ryerson Tull site in Norcross. They will cut you out a piece to size, but the cut charges are usually pretty high. Just do a web search on Ryerson Tull to get the phone number.
Your best bet would be to try calling around to some local machine shops. They probably have a piece of scrap that size lying around that they would sell to you.

Thanks Brad. I found Metro Metal Works right here in McDonough and scored a peice of drop off 12" x 60" x 3/8" for $60 I believe it is even 6061 grade too!

Good deal!
2024 aluminum is even better to cut than the 6061. The problem is that it costs twice as much, which makes it hard to justify.

Yeah, after I saw the prices on 2024 I figured the second best choice was 6061, from what I read it machines "well" and is not too hard.
Again, not sure what I got yet but hopefully it'll be good enough to do what I need.
