I stumbled on a new-to-me method of cutting box joints, or for that matter, any cut that uses a dog-bone fillet. I’m posting this here to get some feedback… Is it “new” or different? Do you think it’s a practical method? Do you understand the method from the text and illustrations?
The ShopBot community is a very small part of the audience I hope to appeal to when I publish my book… Sooo you’re going to get a bunch of stuff bounced off you!
I value your input!

Steve,
I for one was unaware of the process, so thank you for posting.
The instructions and pictures are very easy to follow and explain it in very easy to understand terms.
Instead of sanding them square, wouldn't using a sharp chisel clean them up quicker and cleaner with less chance of blowout?
Regards

I thought I was the only one who did this. You still have to watch you don't knock those thin corners in when you assemble it...;)

Mark…
“wouldn't using a sharp chisel clean them up”
I had carpal tunnel surgery last week so I have obviously been having fine motor skill issues for a while now! For me it was easier to pull a piece of sandpaper stuck on a square rod ( a contradiction in terms!) than to use a chisel. The best part is that with some “soft” Cedar, no cleanup was necessary at all!

Brady…
Thanks for letting me know I wasn’t the “first” to do this… I thought I might have naming rights…

A file would probably be a bit more precise than sandpaper.

Wow… this is an old post! I’d forgotten about it!
The book… I got frustrated with it. Whenever I put it down and came back to it, I was unhappy with everything I’d written! That, and my normal editors (wife and adult children), always fell asleep reading it!
I guess I should look at it again now that I’ve left it alone for quite a while! I tend to write while recovering from surgeries and I tore up my knee yesterday trimming trees in my yard…

Sorry to hear about your knee Steve, I wish you a speedy recovery. I have to admit that I laughed a little when I read that your editors fell asleep reading it, my daughters are the same way. And I can even relate to your tendency to re-write things.....(I just erased everything else that I wrote).
Thanks again, and take care,
Daren
