Not really... but my $600.00 chicken coop job got nixed down to a $200.00 A frame design :mad:because she reminded him they were going to be moving in 2 years, soooo......

I need to make some A frames and thought about making some mortise and tenon joints at an angle to join the 3 pieces together and wondered if anyone had done that on the bot or had a better solution?
I downloaded long ago some files titled something like "50 woodworking joints" and was going to look thru those to see if there is something that might work.

Something like this could keep the costs down if you've got small scraps of ply?
Same place you were going to look.
Sorry not more help.

Well it has changed again...from a A frame to a regular funky design (more like a regular house) but now he is getting a contractor friend to give him all the materials for free and wants me to build it for him (contractor doesn't have the time) so i'm back to the original funky design. So making $300.00 labor for building a chicken coop and some nesting boxes in one day is ok:D unless it changes again!:(

Jack , I like I said before milk crates work best for nesting boxs , if not available they are usually 12" x 12" x 8" gives room for a little hay . And if I didn't mention it's best to hang the water and food from the rafters . Other wise they'll do there business on it. Jeff :D

Sounds like it may be one day to build but a week worth of design/engineering work!!

Yes just say no, some jobs I have done I don't have the courage to do the math of my time investment it is just too depressing.

I am getting better but still at times get overoptimistic on time calculating.

Brady...i love the picture:D fortunately this job doesn't involve crack...at least not the drug:rolleyes:
Dave...I know what you mean, sometimes the "seat time" takes longer, but in that case the only thing that gets tired is my brain for sitting on it too long...:rolleyes:

An interesting discussion re Amish and their skills in woodworking using common cabinet shop tools powered by overhead or under floor line shafts. There are several Amish communities in the Thumb of Michigan and each has several cabinet/furniture shops. All powered by line shafts or individual engines (usually Hondas) with an exhaust hose outside. When the Emerald Ash borer wiped out our Ash trees, those logs were plentiful. I harvested mine from my wood lots; Took them to an Amish sawyer for quarter sawing then to another Amish for kiln drying and on to a third for making beautiful t&g flooring.
Yes it is true about farm fresh eggs. They just can't be beat and until you have tried them you don't know what you are missing. I have about 125 hens and supply friends and neighbors along with a local market. I designed and built my nest boxes on my shopbot(originally a Buddy and now an Alpha 60x96). The pieces fit together using tabs and slots. No fasteners just small wooden "clips". The two hole box pictured is made from a single sheet of 1/4" Baltic Birch. The other a six hole box has been in use for over two years!

Maybe i need top change it to "I LOVE it when the wife chimes in..." after going back and forth i explained that i could make it in such a way with pocketscrews that they could take it apart and store it flat for their move, then she went for the expensive version. So 9 hours later a $600.00 coop is finished...pics in show and tell:D
