Hello all, looking around at spoilboard cutters and the prices hurt my feelings.
Thought I would ask some advice from the community.
I have a 04 PRT 48x96 with router
Thanks
Tim

Tim, Just an inexperienced 2 cents, but if money is tighter than time, then maybe just the biggest Whiteside Mortising bit? We just have the Desktop but have had Very good luck with the finish on even a lot of the exotics in surfacing routines and of course our spoilboards.
$20 plus free shipping.:)

Magnate bits aren’t Cadillacs… i.e. often their V-bits are a few arc-seconds off, BUT, they are inexpensive enough that you can buy big enough ones that it doesn’t matter…

Tim, Magnate isn't too bad for the money. I probably have 200 bits made by them and to tell you the truth I can't complain. Just remember the larger the diameter you use leveling the spoilboard the more you will see imperfections. Inch and a half will do you fine.

I have had a big Amana flattening bit (2.5") with replaceable blades. The part number is RC-2257. It cost $251.55 in 2011. But it is really nice. :)

I'm with Chuck! The Amana is fantastic and dont forget you can use it as general thickness reducing cutter. You can get away with its 1 1/2 inch little brother. Buying top quality tools is a very wise investment and in the long run saves you money.

I had bought an inexpensive one on Amazon (1 1/4") and the shopbot kept stopping about a 1/4 of the way through the surfacing routine. After much discussion with Frank and Jeremy and the diagnoses kept coming back to the Z as the problem (3hp Colombo) I decided to buy the Onsrud 1 1/4" ($45 at Amazon) and it worked fine. I have also leveled several boards with it too..
