I have been trying to figure out the problem most of the day. I have called shopbot about the problem. I have a 2006 Prt standard 96x48 with a new RPK control box. Machine has been running great with no problems for the last 6 months. I was cutting a part and it went to home when i loaded another file and it came up could not find machine. I went in and downloaded new shopbot software the 3.8.26 and ran the machine . It will run good a couple of passes and the carriage will start jumping. The Z will jump when it goes up and down. The screen on the 3.8.26 is the same one i had . I have heard about all the problems about it and want to go back to the one before 3.8.26. I cannot find the download on the shopbot sight. I have checked UD,have done the UR setup each time , and UI update on software. Each time i download the software I get a Failed to open preview data file C/sbparts/sbcoord.txt. How is the best way to find the correct port to plug the machine into on the laptop. My says it is 4 com.
Thanks.

What version are you looking for? 3.8.14 or one of the 3.6.xx ones? I may have 3.8.14 which was the last released version before 3.8.26.
Do you have all of the power saving functions disabled on your laptop? Are you positive you have the correct settings for your machine. You could try a complete clean install of SB3 (registry settings and other folders included, duplicate .ini files).
Once connected, you can swap USB ports and then test your packets on each one to see what one works best. If using version 3.6.xx, you can use speedtest.exe in the diagnostics folder.

Thanks Scott, the 3.8.14 would probably be the one that i had on my computer. I dumped out the SB3 and any other file with it. I tryed downloading the software again on shopbot sight . I still get a Failed to Open Preview Data File on screen and you hit ok and another screen comes up Error occured while processing preview data.

It sounds like it's trying to go into preview mode and can't. Possibly some file corruption or something left from an old install. You could try forcing it to go into Move Cut mode by editing the shopbot.ini file (in C:\ProgramData\ShopBot\ShopBot 3). The last line is probably SP, change it to SM and save it. Try starting SB3 again.
You could also try deleting the registry setting "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Vectric\ShopBot Preview" and try again. That setting will be regenerated.
To get rid of all leftovers for a clean install, check for anything left in C:\ProgramData\ShopBot, C:\Program Files (x86)\ShopBot, C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\ShopBot, and if you want, the SBParts folder, but be sure you have any custom files you have there backed up. Also, delete the registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\ShopBot" and the previewer one again. Then install again.
I'm assuming you're running Win 7. Locations will be different in XP. I've also seen two different ShopBot.ini files left from old installs.
