Hello all, I have a prefinished (including edges) panel and need to cut out parts to make a cubby. I need to leave the pre finished edges.

Is there a way to tell the bot not to touch the edge??

I am using Ecabinets and can tell it to nest to edge but it still cleans the edges up.

Thanks
Tim

TIm,

I'm not sure what you mean cut the edges and leave them finished.

The acting of cutting will remove any finish on the edges. The two faces will be fine, they should not be disturbed if you use the right type of bit. Compression bit is best.

eCabinets will only cut what you tell it to cut (sometimes it has brainfarts though so keep a watchful eye).

If you are cutting parts out of the middle of the sheet (plywood?), the outside edges will remain intact and the finish will remain.

Hi Don,

I think I worked it out, I am going to make my parts larger in ecabs and hold the panel back by that amount so the bit wont touch the edge as it goes by.
That's the only way I can figure to leave the pre finished edge alone.
I just wasn't sure if there was a way to tell the router not to machine an edge.

Thanks
Tim

If the edge is edgebanded, there's a pretty good chance that one side will blow out when the bit comes out of the cut.

Good point Gerry, I will have to protect it.

Thanks
