View Full Version : Support for Deliclate Letters
When working with thick and thin letters like the one below there's often very little material holding it all together. This particular letter is unusual in that has heavy parts with little support in the thin section.
The support here is Filon. That's a thin fiberglass material that comes in 4'X8' sheets. To apply it to the letter I bandsaw a large piece, apply epoxy, and place the letter on top. Once dry there's little chance the flap sander will do much harm.
I believe the letter was from Extira or Trupan.

Hi Joe,
on a similar note i have seen this webbing that you usually see as a backing when you are laying small tiles on a floor and something like that or fiberglass drywall tape might work also:confused:
Gary,
The letter style is "Esoteric". Costs $50. at LHF.
Jack,
I only post what I know works. "What if's" don't help all that much. Please show us what works.

Joe,
Can you recommend another font that is very similar to "esoteric" in letter width?
Perhaps it would help to see how a strong letter support can save the day. I've prepared a couple of samples.
Display sample letters are a feather in your cap. They show your skills and are fun to make. If you haven't made samples to show customers this is a good way to start. Pick a favorite letter and some kind of textured background and start having fun.
Gary Norman,
There are so many fonts to choose from I have know idea what you need. I'd suggest visiting www.fonts.com (http://www.fonts.com).
I often have requests for font suggestions. Those assignments take time which I don't have. Please do your research.

Good stuff as always Joe. good to see you posting more.

Super Dave,
The sample DXF letters you requested have been sent. Let me know if you have any trouble..
Also let me encourage you to use some of them to make customer samples. When a prospective client see's a beautiful sample it sets you apart. Even though your samples may not be anything like what they are looking for they instill the knowledge of what they can do. A reputation can be built on them.
Let me know if you need any help.
